Forums - Sony - I finally understand Sonys 10 year plan!

I just can't understand how well sonys PR works out again.

How can you think that developers will support the PS3 for 10 years? I mean the PS3 has no chance to catch up to the wii and it will have a hard time to get head to head to the Xbox360. So why should a publisher support the console with the smallest userbase for such a long time? With the Wii2 out and the Xbox720 out, nobody will care about the PS3 anymore.

Look at the PS2. The support isn't that huge these days and it is in its 9th year, I guess. Well, the PS2 was a success, the PS3 is not. It only makes sense to develop for an outdated platform, if it was the clear leader of its generation with a great userbase. That is something the PS3 won't have.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

I think the OP is pretty much on the money with a few corrections needed.  The PS3 will be more powerful than the Wii Hd and possibly less expensive at the Wii HD's launch in 2010 with the PS3  giving gamers more of the games that they really want at that time and more functionality as well.  And the PS3 will be significantly cheaper than the Nextbox which will probably be coming out in November 2010 and will be home to most of MS's next line of exclusives while the 360 will mainly be relegated to an original xbox status following the release of the 360 ie. it will mainly be a home for third party multi-console shooters, sports games, and the like which will be better on the Nextbox but at a much higher price than what the PS3 will be at at that time.  So without the big technologically advanced cinematic games that will be coming to the PS3 over the next few years being playable on the Wii HD and the lack of exclusives coming to the 360 after the launch of the Nextbox, Sony will definitely be gaining in marketshare as they pave the way for the PS4 which will launch Holiday 2012.

Graphics don't matter that much.

In term of sales, I agree. Also, judging by the Wii's success, gameplay doesn't matter either.

LOL. Good point!

So are you trying to say Wii games have neither good graphics nor gameplay?

If so I have to wionder why the attach ratio of Wii games to Wii systems is higher than that for the PS3, and in fact comparable to that of the X360 1 year ago. Surely by now, 2 years after launch these people who seemingly don't like the games they already have on the Wii would not be buying more of them?

The ones i have bolded makes this soo wronge, not to mention the rest of your paragraphs.  There is no logic in what you wrote.  I suggest taking a step back and think about technology progression and how the ps3 would be in a corner in the event wii HD and the next xbox console comes out.  Think logically not fanatacilly.

I am thinking logically.  About the only improvement that is going to be made to the Wii with the Wii HD is the ability to play Wii games in HD.  And at launch, the Nextbox is going to cost about $200.00 more than what the PS3 will cost at that time.  That gives the PS3 about a two year window to gain marketshare and really show what it is capable of while most Microsoft first party exclusive money is being pumped into a much more expensive Nextbox (that will really take a couple of years to gain steam) and to be brought down to a price more acceptable to the casual market and the Wii is waiting for the next Mario and Zelda games to come along.  Faddish games like Wii Sports 3 and Wii Fit 2 are going to lose their popularity while cinematic gaming is going to make a comeback over the next few years with most of its best games being PS3 exclusives or being available only on a much more expensive Nextbox and the market friendly priced PS3 or in a compressed form and five or six discs on the 360.

This is my theory of the PS3's 10 year cycle...if it will exist...

2006 - Ps2/Ps3
2007 - Ps2/Ps3
2008 - Ps2/Ps3
2009 - Ps3
2010 - Ps3
2011 - Ps3
2012 - Ps3/Ps4 (at end of year)
2013 - Ps3/Ps4
2014 - Ps3/Ps4
2015 - Ps3/Ps4
2016 - Ps4

The problem with this is, that in 2009, unless Sony will put backwards compatibility in the PS3, they are left with not providing people a way to play a ton of their old PS2 content.  They are now chained to the PS2.  Not sure what happens to customer loyalty if you stop enabling them to play their old games.  At that point, the consider anything out there.

Sony's 10 year plan is a total farce. There is simply no way its going to live up to that. Besides who's to say that the Wii/Xbox360 will simply quit selling once their new counterparts are released? I would say that both of them will continue to pump them out much like Sony did the PS2. Futher limiting Sony's life cycle.

Wow a lot of assumptions here - you don't want to make 'umption' look bad as well do you?

With a launch date in 2012 the WiiHD can feasibly include a Blu-ray player(or other high capacity medium)/more RAM/faster GPU/more developer friendly general purpose CPU than the PS3 AND be $250 at launch.

Similarly the 'Nextbox' won't want to be priced $200 dearer than the WiiHD at launch.

And all this banks on the fact that Microsoft and Nintendo stop support of their consoles once the new gen starts and just let the PS3 become the cheapest console with the largest library of games.

So what you are saying is that Sony doesn't care about consumers this generation and is more concerned recouping R&D costs then about winning until the next generation?

This thread fails.

stupid trolls omfg.... sony planned the 10 year plan (they have even begun saying they will do a 12 year plan) so their software will sell more

In a recent thread posted on this site, Miyamoto (sorry if I'm misspelling his name) was quoted as saying that he is interested in getting the Wii HD out before the Japanese TV industry switches over to hd and in the article it was indicated that time was going to be before the end of 2010, so I really don't see them packing all that stuff you mention into a Wii HD that is released in November 2010.  And since Gears 3 will most likely be a Nextbox title, most other MS exclusives will be likely to follow the same trend.  So, yes, the 360 will basically switch to be a home for third party multiconsole shooters and sports games much as most other consoles do when the newer one is released.  Also, the NextBox will probably be much more expensive than the Wii HD and PS3.  Because unlike the Wii HD, it will be trying to be the most technologically advanced console by far when it is released and one of the goals will be to make a system that is at the least as capable of running Crysis as well as a high-end PC does now and of having Gears 3 make Gears I and II look about like 6th gen games on the original xbox do now.
