Forums - Gaming - HD: LCD or PLASMA - which is better for gaming? what do you use!

For me lcd is equal or better then plasma in the areas that matter most. also lcd's have a longer life span plus they weigh less and also use less energy to power them.

I will always go for an lcd over plasma all day. as long as it has a fast response rate. so its always best to get an lcd monitor with built in freeview like i have.

Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!

Killzone 2. its not a fps. it a FIRST PERSON WAR SIMULATOR!!!! ..The true PLAYSTATION 3 launch date and market dominations is SEP 1st

I would pick the Plasma.

1. Better blacks (A lot of games and movies are dark, so it can be easier to see whats going on)

2. Bigger screen - 42" vs 37" is still a significant difference and bigger is better when practical with TVs.

3. Better response, less ghosting on fast moving images. You don't see it on movies because they run at 30FPS, but many current generation games like COD IV run at 60FPS with fast changing images.

4. Burn in and product life were problems on very early generation Plasmas.

5. Can display SD images better than LCDs because it isn't a fixed pixel panel like LCDs (IIRC)

Tease.

The thing to understand is that no screen is perfect and many of the problems that were associated with LCDs or Plasmas have been reduced or solved. You've made your choice so asking which is best isn't going to do you much good now. Personally, I think you made the right choice going for a plasma.

I use a 50" plasma myself. I have used LCD screens in the past as well, but I prefer the look of the picture on a plasma screen as, to my eyes, it's more natural. Don't get hung up on 'screen burn' either. As long as you don't have the screen brightness and contrast turned all the way up, it shouldn't be an issue. Factory settings for screens are usually crazy because they are calibrated to look good in a brightly lit showroom. As long as you keep the settings sensible and watch as much tv as you play games you won't see screen burn.

Some screens still suffer from image retention that lasts for an hour or so if you have had a bright static image onscreen for a few hours, but if you watch a bit of tv this will disappear. I worried about screen burn when I first got the screen because of what i had read on forums but I don't even think about screen burn or image retention now and I have had many gaming sessions lasting hours on end.

I own a Panasonic plasma 42"(1080i) and a samsung 32" LCD 1080i.. I do love the plasma.. SDTV looks better, and colors and details stand out well.. The LCD is great too. I notice that my wii looks better on the plasma with component cables as opposed to the LCD where it tends to look "low-res" but for 360 both r the same. No burn in yet.. but Im pretty careful about not playing for more than 90 mins on my plasma in a day. Overall, I like the quality on plasmas. But if your looking for convenience, LCD's are probably your thing.

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.

I use my 40" as my TV, PC monitor, and console monitor! =). The best idea ever!

HUGE monitor is awesome!!!!! I can do my work on the PC and watch the game in the picture in picture window. It is awesome!

I have an LCD and Plasma TV, I like gaming on the LCD TV better.

Nintendo still doomed?

The durability and high altitude things clinched it for me. If I ever get an HDTV, I'm going with LCD.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
