Forums - Gaming - Yet another Sony exclusive title goes the Way of the 360

Way of the Samurai 3 for 360. According to Famitsu this once exclusive PS3 game will be ported to the Xbox 360 in Japan on February 29th, 2009. This game has sold over 100,000 in its first month on the PS3 in Japan so it should do moderately well on the 360. It will also have new content in game with DLC to come later. Since Way of the Samurai 1 and 2 were localized on the PS2 for western markets it is likely this game will make it overseas though no official word has been released.

I doubt the game will do moderately well on the 360 unless by moderately well you mean under 20k. A PS3 timed exclusive in Japan that has sold just 100k will do well on the 360? Unless you mean will do well on the west?

At this point, for any studio capable of it, keeping a game exclusive to the 360 or PS3 is tantamount to hating money.

Im glad when titles go multiplatform. It ensures the games sell better, and that the developers invest more in their titles.

As for PS3 vs 360, I still want the PS3 to sell poorly. Im hoping this will force a price drop. The sooner the better. Then Ill go out and get a used one.

Poor logic, if you plan on getting a used one, I'm sure you can find one for around $200 right now if you snoop around enough.

The best lineup is always subjective to an extent. This year however showed two radically different approaches to exclusive lineups on the respective consoles. Sony focused on less then a handful of high end marquis titles. Microsoft focused on volume and diversification. Which begs the question which denotes a better exclusive lineup. I am not going to answer the question, but I am giving a bigger picture then game of the year awards which are always contentious.

@topic

Sony needs to become concerned about the hemorrhaging of exclusives. You could say that the little losses over time lead to the big losses. Every low level defection feeds a negative trend. A war is won on multiple fronts, and Microsoft is managing to turn Japan a safe haven for Sony into yet another battlefield. Microsoft is just forcing Sony to expend resources on defending what should never have needed defending to begin with. Resources that would have been put to better aggressive use.

I know the fanatics on these forums talk up price, but Sony should be even more concerned about the losing of exclusives. The console will sell in spite of its price, but can it do that with no third party exclusives, or less then a handful of them. Now that is a serious question. Sony should ask Nintendo how being utterly dependent on a first party lineup works in a conventional console war. The answer is that it really doesn't work. The Nintendo answer was to stop being conventional. In the middle of a generation Sony doesn't have the option to reshape what their console is, but they should be looking for unique titles to sponsor exclusively.

Does anyone have a PS3 third party exclusives list handy? I think it would be nice to know exactly how many remaining titles are left.

Lets face it, its not the highest profile game thats gone multiplat is it?

way of samurai series is a fairly high profile for JPN market.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

That's partially the reason why Sony has been hyping BluRay and the like.  Why just get a console that plays your games when you can get one that plays your games and does X, Y, Z, etc?  The problem here is that everything short of the free online component and BluRay is being done by Microsoft and usually in a superior form.

At this point, there's little Sony can do about exclusives.  Companies desperately need to make money off of these expensive HD ventures and if a first party isn't willing to make a generous donation to their development then titles are going multiplatform because that's where the money is.

Will likely sell 50K LTD on the 360 in Japan so that's really pointless to port it over.

I'm done arguing about pies because I'm eating spaghetti, which is much better.

So, did it happen to rain meatballs as discussed in Crazzy's prediction thread?

Part 1 and 2 came to the west. Why wouldnt this one?  It really doesnt cost much to localize a game. Only translation really.

It is the advertising that costs the most.  But a game like this doesnt need much.

It is a samurai game plain and simple. Some people actually like the genre and will get the game.

Well ,good for the few thousand 360 fans interested in this .
It sold some 120K on the PS3 ....releasing later and with less that 1/3 the userbase ...dont think it can do more than 20K there but there you go.
Maybe if the game is released in western markets will this decision have any sense .
