Also there's nothing that says that a remake has to be on the PS3.

They did it for FF1, FF2, FF3, and FF4. |
yea but there is a HUGE difference from improving graphics to SNES/64/PS1 graphics or whatever you want to consider them on the DS than it is to throw them up to even FF12 graphics, let alone FF13 graphics

The engine's there ripe for the making (since Crystal Tools works with all current-gen systems), they already have all the necessary concept art and so forth, they already have a fully composed soundtrack... a lot of the more expensive parts are already done.
Yes, it would be more expensive, but there would definitely be some pay-off.
would there be enough of a pay off. The people who all want FF7 remade are gonna buy it for any system it comes out for even if only on the PS2. They may bitch and moan but they WILL buy it.
SO to all those people it doesn't matter. And they are doing good selling their remakes on the DS. And they don't know how well a HD final fantasy will sell yet, and if it even works good (reviews).
Yes the songs are done, concept art, character, buildings layout, world, towns, story and all that. But do you realize how much easier it is to upgrade the graphics of it just a little vs having to make all those elements and thousands more onthe HD systems. Being in HD you have to make so much more than on lesser graphics PS2/Wii because everything is more clear. Imagine how bland some of the places are running aroudn in FF7. Now make that HD, if they didn't add in a shit ton of new things it woudl look horrible.
Now a direct port to the DS with no work involved, like Chrono Trigger woudl be super easy to do. And as said before, the loverboys of the game will buy it no matter what.
Its just gut feeling, but I think there is a 50% chance that a FFVII remake for the Wii will be announced this year.
SE have always said that a FFVII update would not come on any console that could run the *existing* FFVII - and the PS3 can run the PS1 version of FFVII. Its almost certain to be released on PSN at some point.
Considering that the Wii hasn't had a *real* FF title on it yet (i.e. not a FF:CC), I wouldn't be surprised at all if VI came to the DS - and VII came to the Wii (or maybe Wii & DS). Or it could come to the PSP... but then they could just release the original on the PSP if they liked.
Gesta Non Verba
Nocturnal is helping companies get cheaper game ratings in Australia:
Wii code: 2263 4706 2910 1099
I used to be convinced that if a remake were to be made it would hit the ps3, because 1. fans in general seem to want nothing more than a graphics overhaul and things like voice acting, with the actual gameplay remaining virtually unchanged, and 2. SE kind've set up people's expectations with that stupid tech demo from 2005.
Now I think the Wii is also a very viable option, but given the reasons I mentioned already, I think ps3/360 is a more likely choice.
No matter what, i don't think this remake will hit the handhelds.
Of course, it could hit the next generation of handhelds.
Edit: And as irstupid said, no matter where it goes it'll sell millions, so the things I mentioned above probably matter little to SE.

So you think they'll potentially skip V (or even VI!) or announce several remakes at once? It seems to go against their current MO.
i feel that the wii has the right to have the game , becuase sony already have it and nintendo never had the rest of the ff series i think .
FF VII Remake? I can imagine that being like original FF back in 1987, SE's last resort (ie. they'll make it if they'll need money).
I believe if S-E decides to do a FFVII remake, then it would go to the PSP. Think about it, they already have the CC engine, and they wanting to keep their remakes as cheap as possible, then it is the most logical choice. Hopefully they remake FFVI for the DS first, that would be a terrific remake of an awesome, awesome game :D
