Wow I love how its stated as FACT that the PS3 had the best games this year, thats debateable for any of the three consoles. People seem to forget about the blockbuster titles that released on the Wii at the start of the year. Resistence 2 VS. Gears 2? Don't even go there.

So what else did we have?

PS3 - LBP, MGS4 ... what else?

360 - Fable 2, Left 4 Dead

NO it didnt! The PS3 started to outsell the 360 somewhere around October of 07 and continued on through the end of the year, into the next year for 8 months. I agree that 360 has outsold PS3s sales entirety of 08(barely) but no one knew that was going to happen until it did. PS3 consistently outsold 360 for quite sometime yet it got no props whatsoever for it from the media. In actuallity the media would constantly bring up months of the 360 selling better in US, even though it was still being outsold WW by PS3. The only reason the 360 has seen such a rise in sales is because of it's drastically low price. If the PS3 was around that price it would be too. Yet no one is looking at truths like that.

And if System of the Year is completely dependent on sales, then Why was the Wii not included. I heard no one hail the Wii for anything and it has outsold both consoles in both catagories.

Media always spins it into a negative light for PS3.

cause PS3 never picked up the pace this year...
GTA did a brief surge
MSG did a brief surge
R2 + LBP didn't do much

that is not the description of a winning year....

on the other hand, MS had:
_Price cut that permanently surged the console
_Became an RPG platform and took FFXIII rant away from PS3

that is a definition of a nice turnarround from the begining of the year...

Still, both consoles did pretty simmilar and the only reason this year would go to the 360 would be because of Q4 momentum that will spill forward.... but nothing makes it the year of the PS3...

PS3 had Metal Gear Solid 4, Little Big Planet, Resistance 2, Valkyria Chronicles, Socom: Confrontations, Haze, Disgaea 3

Only one FLOPED in sales and acclaim=Haze

360 had Gears of War 2, Fable 2, Banjo 3, Too Human, Infinite Undiscovery, Left 4 Dead

3 of these games FLOPED in sales and acclaim=IU,TH,Banjo 3

Yea, PS3 definitely had better games then 360 and Wii this year.

The PS3 has sold worse during the 2008 holidays than during the 2007 holidays. It is the only console to be doing worse than last year.

Do you still want to call 2008 the year of the PS3?


(2007 and 2008 were actually the year of the Wii. 2009 is looking good for the Wii too.)

WOW! ... thats real spin there folks. Way to miss out Left 4 Dead ... and Socom ... ?? well if you are going to use that can we not add Ninja Gaiden?

Banjo 3 did not flop the game has been out for only 6 weeks and it already sold close to 500k units plus the numbers remain steady so far no big drop off yet.  In others the sales have been actualy increasing for the first six weeks.

Alas, you are wrong.  The PS3 outsold the 360 not until November 10th.  And then only for 3 weeks of November, then the 4 weeks of December.  I consider a little over a month = the last few weeks of the year.

7 weeks < ~14 weeks that the 360 retook at the end of the year.

The PS3 got plenty of good press.  Almost every tech site was hailing it as the Blu-Ray player to pick.  Also, if 360 outsold the PS3 in the US, it got coverage beause most of the sites you were reading are probably based in the US.

The only reason the PS3 saw such a rise in sales end of last year and beginning was because of it's drastric price drop that made it the same price as a 360.  The 360 price cut was overdue as it had not had a single significant drop while the PS3 had already had $200 knocked off.  If the PS3 was also at $200-300, Sony would be on it's last leg attempts to discontinue the system as that price would cause them to lose multiple billions of dollars in a very short time.  No one looks at failed logic that some people think are "truths".

As to your last point.  I believe myself and at least a few others already mentioned in this thread that the Wii claimed those years.

No one ever said Valkyria or Disgaea were sales giants, and they aren't. SOCOM also failed miserably, unless you still are hiding in that cave and missed the news.  Banjo was never claimed to be some huge sales giant either.  Neither was Infinite Undiscovery.

So it looks like a 3/3 split tie to me if we are comparing the big exclusives of the year.
