What Resistance 2 are you playing twesterm?

Crouch is L2, Fire is R1, Alt Fire is R2, and L1 is Zoom in.

And you can use all four shoulder buttons at the same time. Your index fingers on the 1s and middle fingers on the 2s. It's not that hard.

But R2 is a Sony game so...

Haven't played Resistance 2 yet, I'm still on R:FoM.  That's why I keep saying R:FoM.

Oh goodie.

But still.  You can use all 4 shoulder buttons at the same time.

You can if you use four fingers on the shoulder buttons and I don't know a lot of people that do that.  I know some people that do, but most people only use two (and we actually had a huge discussion about this at work a few weeks ago when we were going over controls).

And I don't know about R2, but even using four fingers crouching and trying to alt fire (or even fire) isn't easy.

It's toggle crouch in R2.

+1 though Res 1 killed my motivation to play Res 2...

Unless R:FoM suddenly gets really good I'm only going to play R2 because I already have it (Gamestop buy 2 used get 1 used free deal).

Though very glad they put toggle crouch in R2.

I also use two fingers for the shoulders. I find my index finger reaction speed is much quicker and therefore, I play better that way.

The crouching in RFoM was terrible because of that. It's also one of the reasons MGS3's control system made me want to scream.

I'd agree with you here - Resistance felt like more of the same. Like Quake 1 with new weapons, or something... I kept thinking, "there's got to be something here that made people give this game such high reviews..." Unfortunately, I didn't find anything. It's no Gears of War, that's for sure.

Also, I'll have to warn you against playing R2. I got caught up in the hype (somehow thought it would be a completely different game, stupid me), but it isn't that different. If you dislike R1 as much as I do, stay away from the second. It shouldn't be a problem, there are many more interesting games on the console worth your time.

Actually, the only Insonniac games I've played are R1 / R2. I know should give R&C a go sometime...

Firstly, Insomniac aren't the second best PS3 team, they're the third. (Santa Monica and Team ICO take the first two spots)

Secondly, don't worry. Resistance 2 improved upon Resistance in every conceivable way. But they made you only carry two weapons at a time, and the controls on the whole became more standard FPS. They chucked individuality out of the window a little, but the core gameplay is great.

The campaign could use some work, the story is still a mess, the graphics are better, online has been boosted to 60 competitive, 8 co-op. There is a co-op campaign that you can play with:

1) Another player on the same system
2) Up to seven other people online
3) Another player on the same system AND up to six other people online.

Same with competitive, but change the 7 to a 59 and the six to a 58.

So yeah, it's worth a purchase.

Fourth.  Naughty Dog > Insomniac.  And, imo, Naughty Dog > Sony Santa Monica.

And while I've only played R&C Future, imo R&C >>>>>>>>> Res 1/2.

The first one is opinion, but Naughty Dog > Santa Monica? No way. Santa Monica made God of War. This makes them developer gods. Naughty Dog's finest work is Uncharted, which is excellent, but not a scratch on GoW. Insomniac's best work is Ratchet and Clank, and I would definitely say Future destroyed R2 if they had put online in! And like I said, R&C3 destroys everything else they have made, and propels them above Naughty Dog. Although Uncharted > Ratchet and Clank, I prefer Resistance to Jak.

I'm guessing you have Team ICO at the top? I have them in second.

OT: Everything you mention, Maxwell, I think "They fixed that in the sequel". I'd say it's definitely worth picking up.

Naughty Dog > Sony Santa Monica indeed, they've made better games then God of War would ever dream to be :)

I still believe I'm going to hold off on Res 2 at least until I pick up Ratchet and Clank Future.

Wait, you'd actually pick God of War over Shadow of the Colossus?

Oh, boy... That's like choosing Donnie Darko over Children of Men. That's just... wrong.

I'm sure I'll get hated on for this, but I'm not a huge fan of Shadow of the Colossus.

The boss fight parts aren't bad for the most part (though they get old by the end) but I hated the whole finding and getting to the boss parts.

I guess that's the hard part making a game that's only boss fights (though Mike Tyson's Punch Out! did an excellent job of that).

ROFL. You just compared Punch Out! to SotC... Yeah, the "downtime" of SotC was finding the bosses but I never had that big of a problem finding them. I don't think I ever spent more than 15 minutes searching for the next colossi.

What SotC had going for it was atmosphere... Loads of it. It's one of the most intriguing games I've ever played because it all felt so vastly different than anything I had experienced previous to it. Later, it brought in moral questions regarding your actions, interesting gameplay, and a compelling feel to the game brought by its near silence. Together, it's one of the few videogames I would classify as quality art. There are loads of messages there, most of which are left to the player to interpret for themselves.

Interactivity at its best, IMO. 99% of the developers out there could learn a lot from that game if we ever want this medium to become a respected avenue for artists to convey their work.
