Forums - Sony - Why are people saying Killzone 2 had NO competition when in launches 2/09?

One of the arguments that Killzone 2 will do gangbusters is that it faces NO competition when it is set to launch February 2009.  In this, it is meant no title like World at War that was said to drag down Resistance 2.

Anyhow, I am curious why people are saying this.  It set to hit shelves late February, so I decided to see what else was there, after seeing pre-sale on shelves.  So, I found these games set to hit in February time frame and into March:

1. Bionic Commando.  This time it is done in 3D view, as opposed to 2D platformer in the past.  This is Capcom attempting to get into the 3D shooter arena.  And yes, it will have multiplayer:

2. Godfather 2.  Yes, inspired by GTA, but different game world.  3D shooting action is part, and it will have multiplayer.

3. GTA: The Lost and the Damned.  IF the new multiplayer modes in this feature more deathmatch style modes, then it needs to be considered as competition for Killzone 2.

4. Damnation.  Codemasters doing a FPS.  If you consider Gears of War as in the same area as Halo, Resistance, and Killzone, then this counts.

5.  Rogue Warriors.  Based upon the best-selling novel.  This is being published by Bethesda.

6. F.E.A.R 2: Project Origin.  Yes, the sequel to the original FEAR is due out.  My seeing the preorder box at Best Buy, after reading comments on here how Killzone 2 will have "no competition" earlier, was a motivation for seeing else is due out.

All and all, this argument that Killzone 2 will do gangbusters because it has "no competition" is absurd.  Killzone 2, if it sells well, will need the PS3 to show itself as a platform that can support FPS titles, it has to be marketed well, and needs to be a AAA title in quality.  But, to think it lacks competition is off, in my opinion.  And, I didn't even list other genres, just titles that could be considered potential competition for Killzone 2.  Street Fighter 4 would be considered competition for videogame dollars, even if it isn' for FPS dollars.  Can also throw in the likes of Resident Evil 5 (set to release within a few weeks of Killzone 2), and Matt Hazard (old school FPS, where multiplayer is in question).

Also, is KZ2 going to blow away CoD:World At War?  If on the quality front, maybe it has a shot.  But otherwise is World at War no longer going to be on shelves?  I think it probably will.

None of those games touch the amount of hype killzone 2 has.

mM

one is DLC.
one is a dowload title.
and the rest never heard about them.

so yes i am still getting killzone 2.

What Leo-J said. I personally will be buying F.E.A.R 2 and killzone 2, but I'm a realist, killzone is gonna get all the attention when it releases. ALL the attention, good, bad, and everything in between. Will it be huge? will it fail? Can it "save" the PS3? The eyes of the video game world will be on killzone.

 agreed.

Resistance 2 faced much more competiton with the sequel to the 11+ million selling Call of Duty 4

Killzone 2 doesn't have much competition which is why its a perfect time to release it

Halo Wars is released within a week or so from Killzone 2 and will take away a huge chunk of the hype, especially in NA.
