Forums - Sales - According to the JP Preview, WKC may be the best selling HD JRPG in Japan!

Doesn't MC or Famitsu's numbers get leaked tonight?

Around the Network

I know one of the two (Media Create?) gets a week off due to the holidays. We should still get the other (Famitsu?) numbers though.

Currently playing on PS3: God of War III

Currently playing on Xbox360: Final Fantasy XIII

I see what you mean naztips. I still play Chrono Trigger to this day with great enjoyment, but is hard to say if it's because it was my first JRPG or because I actualy thought it was an awsome game. Most of my friends like it, but not as much as I do, so I thought maybe I have "first-time-JRPG-playing-bias".

I think it has more to do with the fact that Chrono Trigger was revolutionary back then.  However, because of FFVII selling millions in the West, there were more and more JRPGs coming to the West which slowly killed the novelty of the uniqueness.  Many of the cliches in JRPGs these days were started by games lik Chrono Trigger.

Well, Chrono Trigger was revolutionary even for the East, i can tell because we have a strong Asian community and they brought the FAMICOM, the Super FAMICOM, the Megadrive, etc., and with all the games (Because of that i had the privilege to play a lot of JRPGs on J-Ninty systems, i knew the real DQ boxarts instead of the crappy DW ones, i played Rockman instead of Megaman, and the list goes on), and i remembered when i went to one of my Asian friends to play a Mario Kart match, and instead, i became part of a crowd that was watching this awesomely designed RPG, they told me the name was Chrono Trigger and it was something never seen, and later they told me about the FF-DQ dream team joined together in this game... Chrono Trigger got stuck into our minds...

Interestingly, Mistwalker tried a dream team game this gen (Blue Dragon) but for me, it was not well executed, Lost Odyssey on the other hand is really good, not SNES-PS1 good, but good nonetheless...

203k opening week! TAKE THAT BENGA BENGA! He said t would open with 160k

Sweet, I said 220K, I was pretty close!

Glad to see WKC pulling some decent numbers. Really can't wait for it to hit the states.

  • 2010 MUST Haves: WKC, Heavy Rain, GoWIII, Fable III, Mass Effect 2, Bayonetta, Darksiders, FFXIII, Alan Wake, No More Heroes 2, Fragile Dreams: FRotM, Trinity: SoZ, BFBC2.
  • Older Need To Buys: Super Mario Bros. Wii, Mario Kart Wii, Deadspace, Demon's Souls, Uncharted 2.

There is definitely more to list that I want, but that's my main focus there.

hy is this a surprise?

The number of PS3s in Japan easily tops the number of 360s. Of course it would be the largest HD JRPG in Japan ever released... its like.. the PS3's first JRPG. (I don't count Folklore and VC as traditional JRPGs)

Why haven't Wii JRPGS sold tons then

Because the Wii owners, unlike the PS3 owners don't care less for JRPGs. Mario games only for them.

Haven't you noticed why DMJ had to include the "HD" JRPG as a conditional?

Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors Square Enix 0.50m
Pokemon Batoru Reboryūshon Nintendo 0.31m
Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World Namco Bandai 0.22m

WKC has yet to top any of these. It will overtake the Tales spinoff next week, but lifetime against Pokemon should be close. It doesn't have a chance at the Dragon Quest spinoff.

Big name JRPG's on the Wii will sell, period. Have we already forgotten the announcement that DQX is arriving on the Wii? edit: Forgot to mention MH3. Only Mario on the Wii, right?

OT: Sales are a little better than I expected, not bad. Still, the PS3 hasn't quite yet proven it can sell JRPG's better than the 360 worldwide, which was the argument (I thought) some of the "Xbots" claimed, one I agree with. As for people calling Square-Enix idiots for putting their games on the 360, I'm not sure what to think... if you're implying WKC showed the PS3 is a more viable JRPG platform, I suggest looking at the Wii's DQ spinoff, which opened at 310k first week over a year ago.

I think those 3 wii examples prove that Wii sells jRPG badly :) WKC at ToS level after 1 week and should easily catch up to Pokemon in next month, only Dragon Quest might be out of reach

The examples only prove that there are no high budget JRPGs on Wii yet. I'm sure Dragon Quest Swords costed less than 20% of WKC to develop. Next year we can judge sales of Wii JRPGs. I can guarantee you that Wii will have most best selling RPGs by the end of 2009 and will be the console of choice for JRPGs.

FYI some of the RPGs for next year on Wii (every fan of the genre might want to consider a wagglebox):

***List of Wii games with pictures and descriptions for each one deleted***

Ok, I was going to keep quiet about this but it's bothering me.  Why is it that I mentioned Star Ocean 4, a HD game which is appropriate for a thread about HD JRPG sales, and I get a ban yet I see other people doing the exact same thing with Wii JRPGs which is offtopic and absolutely nothing is said about it?  And before anyone brings up the fact that I made the assumption that Star Ocean 4 will outsell WKC, make note of posts like this in this thread where the posters are doing the exact same thing for Wii games.

1. 287k on 2 weeks, how many are betting on outselling Rogue Galaxy???

Great to see it doing well. I had really high hopes for this games and i'm still not quite sure if its going to meet my expectations quality wise. Either way i'm picking it up day one
