Uh, not at all. The quote that leo-j quoted is still in the discussion. It's the first part of the discussion. During the discussion, Benga agreed it could hit 300k. Apparently neither of you can read.

Yes, yes, I agree with this 100%. PS1 RPGs FTW!!! |
I think most people including me agree on this. Back in the SNES and PS1 eras, some of the JRPGs were among the most highly regarded games back then with games like the various FF games, Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Xenogears, Earthbound, Vagrant Story, Suikoden II, Valkyrie Profile, and many others getting praised like hell from gamers. This gen however, the only current gen JRPGs that are getting praise like that is Lost Odyssey, Tales of Vesperia, and Valkyria Chronicles(if that counts).
Oh yes, the legends of JRPG from SNES and PS1 era. I think that even if we did stumbled upon some great JRPGs now, we wouldn't recogize it 'cause wearing the nostalgia goggles for so long destroyed our eyes...

I dunno, I can tell what games I loved by nostalgia and what ones I still love. I loved FFVIII the first time I played it, now I can barely stomach it. I loved FFIX, and I still do. I loved FFVI, and I still do. I loved Chrono Trigger, and I still do. The test is if you can replay the games now and still have a blast with them.

I see what you mean naztips. I still play Chrono Trigger to this day with great enjoyment, but is hard to say if it's because it was my first JRPG or because I actualy thought it was an awsome game. Most of my friends like it, but not as much as I do, so I thought maybe I have "first-time-JRPG-playing-bias".

I think it has more to do with the fact that Chrono Trigger was revolutionary back then. However, because of FFVII selling millions in the West, there were more and more JRPGs coming to the West which slowly killed the novelty of the uniqueness. Many of the cliches in JRPGs these days were started by games lik Chrono Trigger.

it's funny you should say that, cause I feel that CT has more uniqueness in its characters than most games (not just JRPGs) today...

Umm, this isn't exactly a very impressive accomplishment.
