Nintendo increases orders to InvenSense

Hans Wu, Taipei; Meiling Chen, DIGITIMES [Friday 26 December 2008]

Nintendo has placed extra orders with its component supplier InvenSense and has already forwarded part of the payment in advance, which is an indication of strong growth for the Japanese game console maker despite the weak economy, according to market sources.

To secure sufficient component supplies for its new product Wii Motion Plus, Nintendo has asked for increased gyroscpe shipments from InvenSense, said the sources.

Demand for game consoles, such as Nintendo Wii, Microsoft Xbox and Sony PS3, remains strong, benefiting sales of related component suppliers, the sources said.

--How many, im guessing the order is for "all of them"

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

How many ? Not enough

Not enough...

Me??I'm going to buy WSR and 3 motion+.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

Yes, everyone would want to have one with every wiimote...so the must increase production. I like the idea of the WiiMontion+, but shouldn't they have included since the launching of the Wii, because that is what they sold to us in the videos since the begining of the marketing.

that is stupid and trolly trolly. No one thought it was busted and everyone loved it regardless of its complexity at the time. Now there will be better movement but at least the price will be reasonable anyway.

2 years ago having this technology built in might have cost you a extra 20$ per remote, something people would not have thought reasonable.

Hopefully Nintendo will have alot of Wiimotion +'s, at launch, so then Wii Sports resort won't be supply constrained and can launch in other countries sooner than Wii Fit did

So are Nintendo's motion control and its patent came from that company or that company only supplying the motion plus?

E3 2008- Armageddon. Wii motion plus introduced. Wii Music. Reggie says Animal crossing was a core game. Massive disappointment. many Wii core gamers selling their Wii.

I think its specifically just accellorometers that Nintendo use them for. They have their own patent, but just for the design and its uses, ir, etc. Not the tech

This.

I imagine Nintendo's supply chain managers are a pain in the ass to other companies. Every few months they must be nagging all the suppliers about another production increase. Not that the other companies would complain of course.
