Forums - Nintendo - Are 500k sales a success on Wii?

I dont follow sales too much or know what to consider a failure or not. Sue me!

I ask this questions because theres alot of good 3rd party games coming next year but I doubt they'll be million sellers.

I dont expect MadWorld and The Conduit for example to hit 1 million. I do expect them to reach 500k though.

On HD consoles with all the expensive development cost I think if you dont reach 1 million youve lost a good amount of money.

Though in Wii you can do good buy selling in the 100k or above area. So will third partys count 500k a success are see it as a failure?

Namco once said a typical PS3 game needed to sell 500k to turn any profit. A Wii game would likely cost a lot less than that, so 500k would be quite a tidy profit.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

Really?
Thats good to hear then.

Thats why Namco was happy to report about TOS2 sales and THQ says De Blob was a commercial financial success. And Marvelous actually having a party with he 300,000 sales of NMH

E3 2008- Armageddon. Wii motion plus introduced. Wii Music. Reggie says Animal crossing was a core game. Massive disappointment. many Wii core gamers selling their Wii.

Going by numbers of Wii's sold, 500,000 is not a very impressive number.

But, going by cost of development, financial return, and general "successful sales" numbers, 500,000 is pretty good.

No More Heroes' numbers of just under 400,000 is considered pretty successful on the Wii. It's also considered very successful for a Suda51 game since it's his best-selling ever.

I might add, thats why DDI and Hudson profits more (which means even Konami profits more since theyre partnered with Hudson) than the big third parties like SEGA, EA and Take 2.

Those games even dont need a 100,000 to make a profit Hudson games and Ninjabreadman was a proof of it.

Depends on the game?

1. Production
2. Staffing
3. Marketing
4. Distribution

The larger the game in content and detail the more expensive obviously, having a game render 500 million and up in polys at HD isn't cheap in SD isn't cheap either but I don't believe the Wii has or can rendered 500 million filled polygons. (500 million is just a number but HDtwins do around that much or higher.)

Then since they are third party the license fees and so on come into play which fits into distribution.

Staffing, such as Q and A staff which may be grave yard and standard hours.

Marketting is the expensive part or at least more directly expensive, the other three express their cost over a period of time.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

We all know the majority of Wii owner arent the people buying the 2 games I listed above.

Which is why I just wanna know if its good financially for 3rd partys. After all all they care about is the money and as long as they make it they'll keep supporting it. Games on Wii dont need to be sell 1 million to be a success which I think is pretty damn cool. The media will talk shit but hey the companies made money and they dont see them as failures I guess which is a good thing

On any console 500k is a success, unless you have around 100 emplyees that have been working for 3 years on that game, and its a very high quality PS3 or game, 500k wouldnt be good..
