Nobody could have predicted that the Wii would be as popular as it is.

Nobody could have predicted that the PS3 would be $600 at launch. If it had a $300 launch and no Blu-ray, some of those PS3 predictions could well have come true.

Ah, well. Bad for Sony, good for us.

IDC was the closest. In fact, compared to most expectations, they are rather close. Did anyone predict more accurately?

This seems to be the most intelligent guess out of them all, even though they are also way out.
Is there any company that predicted Nintendo's success before the Wii was launched?

Most of pre-2006 console market predictions just showed that most of analysts being paid for nothing. BUT there're couple of reviews that procced from simple idea that Wii = DS business-model, so expect much higher sales than most of those so called analysts predicted. So there WERE ppl who expected Wii to do great job, they just couldn't predict how big it's going to be, 'cos there was no precedent of such a thing except DS. Even Iwata confesses that he couldn't imagine THAT success, he knew that they eventually will be successful, but NOT that fast.

a few months before the Wii launched (after E3 2006) I was predicting the Wii and PS3 to be fairly even by the end of gen..... something like 80 million PS3 to 75 million Wii, with 30 million X360s
