Forums - Sales - Nintendo Wii: Facing the Inevitable

The Wii will sell MORE units next year than this year, and will have even a bigger Xmas than this time around.

For some reason, the media are still using a "Wii has sold 35m" figure - once it hits 50m, they will surely have to give up...

Lets remember:
- zero price cuts to date
- zero hardware revisions
- zero 'colour' revisions released

2008 was all about satisfying some of the demand that 2007 couldn't satisfy. 2009 is going to be about games, as the first wave of non-Nintendo 'AAA' titles finally hit the console. And M+.

Oh yeah, and I love this:
"Nintendo (NTDOY.PK) have now rolled out all their great and famous properties on the Wii. So they have very few places left to go for the stream of AAA titles needed to sustain a platform."
- Pokemon, Brain Training, Nintendogs, WiiSports sequel, Fzero, New Zelda, Pikmin, Mario Sports titles, Paper Mario RPG,

A new Donkey Kong platformer (a real one, not Jungle Beat) on the Wii would be huuuuuuuuuge.

Bigger than a new Zelda sales-wise IMO. I think a new Zelda could do 8-9 mill on the Wii, but a new DK done well would be 10-12 million WW.

Along the lines of Donkey Kong Country on the SNES. The time is right, that's definitely one franchise Nintendo should look at. I think actually this is what EAD Tokyo has been working on since Super Mario Galaxy finished.

Punch-Out! will be a hit on the Wii next year too. It has lots retro-gaming appeal perfect for the Wii audience.

Lol MS must have been pay him $$$

I want his job

Personally, I am kind of upset that I can't get myself a special Pikachu Edition Nintendo Wii.

Wow, for as little a threat to core and hardcore gaming the Wii is, it sure has alot of bitter gamers upset.

If the Wii is no threat, if the Wii is doomed, then why are so many of you worried about it? In the end do sales figures matter more to you than games?

This is getting so sad....

When will people just let go of their Wii Doomed desires and quit underestimating it.

At every checkpoint from the set go, the Wii has prooved comments like this wrong and its not about to stop anytime soon.

Nintendo = Innovation = Wii

It's no secret that I'm no fan of the Wii, but even I find this thread's premis to be rediculous.

"This is the deep-dish, delicious irony endured by the Nintendo stalwart: to see their platform of choice ascendant, even as their bright God turns his face away."

What is "winning"?

Are you implying that the 360 will sell so much more and the Wii so much less that the 360 will pass the Wii's total numbers in the next 3-4 years remaining for significant sales of this generation?

There are many flaws with your argument, I will name two.

1. The 360 is cheaper and it has a better online experience.

These two cancel each other out. To own a 360 and get the better online experience you need to pay more than what the Wii costs. There is also no evidence that the lower price or the "better" online experience will contribute to the 360 selling more than the Wii.

2. You're assuming that what you like, or reviewers like (better library?), is what everyone likes or, more importantly, everyone buys.

The idea that publishers will blame Nintendo for lackluster sales, and move titles away from Wii, is immature. Publishers and developers realize "“We've got work to do on the Wii.” (Peter Moore) If anything, it's taken 2 years for them to catch up after their mistake, now we are starting to see major releases: Monster Hunter 3 and DQX (2 of Japan's biggest franchises) The Sims (1 of America and Europe's Biggest franchises)

Guitar Hero sells more on Wii (The largest franchise), Sonic sells more on Wii, Shaun White sells more on Wii, Rayman Raving Rabbids is one of Ubisoft's most profitable series, etc. etc. etc...

My point is that, third parties can and do make money off of Wii, they have and will release(d) major games for Wii; they're just not games YOU like.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

Can we get a "Bruce on Games said so" square on Wii Bingo?

It could replace the "The gamecube started off well too" square. That one isn't likely to come up anymore
