Nope, all game boy game work, I say this because I've loved playing Mario Land 1 on my tv using my gamecube.

Fire Emblem, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance , Tactics Ogre: Knights of Lodis and Ygdra Union.
JRPG :
Golden Sun 1&2 ( one of best production value on a GBA game ), Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga( strange but very good ) , Mother 3 ( if you understand japanese ), porting of Final Fantasy 4/5/6, porting of Tales of Phantasia , Sword of Mana , Shining Soul 1&2, Riviera ( atypical ).

I bought it because the small screen gives me headaches and to play Minish Cap because it is the first Zelda game according to Game Trailers and A Link to the Past and many of the rpgs you mention. Plus the Dragon Warrior games -- the gbc ones before moving on to the ds ones.
For GBA, I already have Golden Sun I and The GBA NES series version of Zelda I. I also have Dragon Quest I and II for GBC.

Dragon Quest III on GBC is IMO the best JRPG on GBC
