Forums - Microsoft - Price cut to $150 Arcade, $225 Premium, $300 Elite next year?

My guess would be:
Arcade - $179
Premium 60GB - $250
Elite - $300

This will happen in Spring 2009 following a PS3 price cut which I still believe will be to $299.

i think a drop for the pro to $250 and the elite to $300 is more likely at some point in 09, a arcade price isnt a sure thing since its selling really good at the $199 price point. i also dont see sony making a drop in price until maybe march and if they dont by then a summer drop, but until sony makes a decision to get more price savy for the economic minded ppl, then they will continue to lose market share and ppl to the 360 and wii.

Arcade - $179
Premium 60GB - $250
Elite - $300

^these price-points reflect the current European prices spot on.

The big incentive for Microsoft to push for faster sales is the network effects of the console. The more they sell, the higher the % of Live adoption (As they have said in the past) and every console sale makes the next easier as people get their friends to buy the system as well. Its a snowball effect and the faster they sell the more they will sell.

Tease.

@Infamy79:
By April 2009 [80or120GB HDD + BD drive + (Cell price - Xenon price)] will cost to manufacturers most probably around $100 if not even less, so a $299 PS3 will lose (or gain) roughly as much as a $199 XB360 Arcade. Definitely feasible.

It's amazing the Arcade is allready significantly cheaper than the Wii (and 1/3 the price of a PS3) and bundles with several extra games. The Wii is totally destroying the PS360 in sales though and making a good profit at the same time.
Are MS desperate to hold back the Wii from reaching 50% and keeping their own % from falling down towards 25%. ?
When Wii reaches 50% software developers will en-mass drop priority from PS360 console games and shift primary games development to the Wii platform where the $$ are. Once Wii gets stronger support from the SW developers then 60% market by 2010 will be on the cards. But i think MS would have to pay people to take their HW to hold back the Wii, the only extra X360 sales MS seem to get from their lowered price are from would be PS2 and PS3 sales. !
Wii sales are increasing almost completly un-affected by this. It's clear old-generation (PS2 & PS360) consoles just dont appeal to people like the next-generation Wii does.

Why would companies drop their PS360 support if thy can sell a million copies of games like Nerf?

With the 360 anything is possible!

But didn't this holiday season prove that its not all about price?

Yes, the 360 dropped its prices and had a really nice boost.  But the Arcade is cheaper than the Wii and its still is getting FAR outsold by it.

So, is the 360 outselling the PS3 JUST because of price?  Does every 360 sold make the PS3 more redundant due to similar/same game quality/titles?

Regardless, if the PS3 drops price $50 sometime in 2009 (which, honestly, is the most realistic cut considering Sony's financials), will that be enough of a drop to seriously cut into 360 sales?  Its debatable.  That would put the console at $349/449 vs the 360 being $199/299/399.  If you look at that, it still looks like the PS3 is more expensive because IT IS.

IF MS decides to drop the price, expect it to be in the $20-50 range, depending on the SKU (Arcade/Pro/Elite - $179/269/349?).
