The only real competition up there is left 4 dead. And they were probably basing their judgment on the 360 version, so it couldn't compete either. Not to take away from R2's win though, its a good game and deserves the award

I don't understand how the awards are being given out this year on all these sites. In fact I don't understand how these awards have worked for the last several years.

Resistance 2 is a shell of the game Resistance 1 was in production value, and is no were close to a game like Left 4 Dead or Call of Duty: World at War. With that said it somehow is the best FPS this year.

As a massive fan of the first Resistance game it is sickining to me seeing this new game get so much praise. I do not want to sound like I am dissing Insomniac at all because I love those guys. The fact of the matter is they ruined Resistance. The gameplay is a step back from the first in both fun, and playability. From a graphics standpoint the game is a dissapointment, not because of a lack of skill, but due to to much to fast. The same can be said about most of the elements of this game.

IMO this game was not given the time it needed to be a true successor to the original. For now I don't want to believe that a lot of the mistakes made were due to the talent at Insomniac. Based on their track record this is a lot less than what I would expect from them. I hope in the future they decide to take a bit more time and deliver products that are more thought out and better exicuted. Hopefully Sony is not the one causing these problems, because if so, it is very short sighted of them to give so much talent so little time to create what they are truly capable of.

I thought Left 4 Dead was better before I tried Resistance 2's online.
R2 thoroughly deserves it.

Resistance 2 is a great game!

First IGN recommended Resistance 2 above Gears 2 and now rather unexpectedly for me Gametrailers awards Resistance 2 as best FPS of 2008. 8-)

The graphics assets may not be as polished as Metal Gear Solid 4, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and even Gears of War 2. But the game's graphics makes up for this in terms of scale and on screen activity, from most perspectives it's well a better game than Resistance 1 was. Online is far more extensive and better.

IMO best FPS on the PS3, until the arrival of Killzone 2.

well said all around.  I think people are finally coming around.  R2's 8-player co-op is unprecedented and should be rewarded.
