Forums - Sony - Playstation 3 autoplay and controller default player questions

So here's are twp quick questions that probably has an easy answer that I just can't find because I'm blind:

Question 1

How do I turn on autoplay on my PS3 so that it automatically plays when I insert a disc but not when I turn the system on.

There's an autoplay option under the menu that I use to have on and if I inserted a disc, the disc would autoplay which is what I want.  The thing it did that I didn't want is that when I turn my PS3 on, it autoplays whatever is in the disc drive, be it movie or game.

I turned that autoplay option off and now it doesn't autoplay when I turn the console on, but it also doesn't autoplay when I insert a disc.

How do I make it autoplay when I insert a disc but not when I turn the console on?

Question 2

My controller always defaults to 2nd player, why?  Whether I turn my PS3 on with my controller or by pressing the power button and then turning on the controller, the controller always defaults to player 2.  I always have to turn the controller off and then turn the controller on and then it goes back to player 1.

I have a Nyko remote dongle (which I would rather not take out) in one of the USB ports and I've tried placing in all the different USB ports but that doesn't seem to do anything.

How do I get my DS3 to default to player 1?

Not sure about #1

#2
Plug in your ps3 controller with the usb cable, hit the ps button on that controller with your ps3 off and it should make that controller #1.

#1: There currently is no way to do this...you've already discovered the two options that are available regarding auto-play.

#2: Try unplugging your Nyko dongle when you turn your PS3 on. It might be giving priority to that (it happens to me with Rock Band dongles)

#1 you can't do. Well you can, sort of. Basically, you have to turn on that autoplay feature you were talking about, and whenever you turn your console on, just make sure you hold left or right so when the menu comes up, you'll move off the disc. If you move before it can 'autoplay', which isn't hard to do, it won't autoplay.

#2 That's odd..try what the above said..aside from that, theres an easier way to change your controller back to port one - just hold the PS button and go to (I think) Controller Settings (and you might have to be in a game to do this as well, I'm not sure) and you can manually change it to port 1.

I've encountered problem #2 a few times, but what happens is if I have more than 1 controller being used, and I turn the console off and try to turn it back on again with a controller I just finished using, it will keep it's controller slot. So long as I use the same controller that's been port 1, theres no problem. And if I just get off work one day and go to play, it doesn't matter which controller I start with..it's as if the Bluetooth has some sort of short term memory I guess. How long? Who knows..

The DualShock 3?  Unless you consider rumble last gen then of course it is.

And that sucks about question 1, I don't see why they won't give people the option and I'll try question 2 later.  Thanks for the answers!

Not really, your pretty much the only person asking for this ability. The current auto-play function was ported from the PSP because people requested it. If they didnt we would still auto-start with game disc in no matter what.

Question 2 is related to basic hardware functionality which you SHOULD know. When a system boots up it has a process of order which it checks the HDD for boot info, checks video ports and sends video signal, checks USB ports of connected components, than starts extras like WLAN and BlueTooth. So in the basics of boot up sequences USB attached devices will always take priority over unconnected devices. To solve this, dont connect anything in the USBs before startup.

Really?  I know other people at work that have the same problem I do with it.  It's annoying to turn my PS3 on and then immediately have it start a game when I really want to watch a movie or vice versa.  It's a pain in the ass and totally not convenient.  Is it really that hard to make that into two options instead of forcing people to have both?

As for two, then I guess I might as well not bother because I'm not unplugging the Nyko dongle and keeping it unplugged.  It would make sense if it went to port two if I turned the PS3 on with the power button but it doesn't make sense when I turn the PS3 on through my controller.

Why dont you just go into the system menu and turn off auto-start on games.... is it that hard to press X to start a game from the XMB after start up? Plus if you plan on switching to a movie anyways you have to move the XMB over to videos anyways.
