Forums - Sony - Has the PSP made a profit yet?

Although the console has had very few great games in it's time I do think the PSP is a very good portable console. Does anyone know if Sony have made profit on the PSP yet?

I would love for a next gen PSP to happen, I do believe piracy hurt software sales a lot but having played games such as Crisis Core and now Dissidia I would be a very sad panda if there was no PSP2. :(

No one cares about PSP? :(

Yeah, the PSP as a whole has made a profit. I can't really give you raw numbers though.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

The only reason the J man cares about psp2 is so that it can emulate a ps2 , thats it at the moment.

N64 is the ONLY console of the fifth generation!!!

Id rather see PSP get a bridge revision, PSP-4000. Sort of an in between PSP and PSP2. With some internal memory (like 2 gigs), better battery life, better screen (not the crap one on the PSP-3000), and a refocus on downloadable games.

Push hard to put all of the top selling PSP and old PSX games on the playstation store. Push publishers to bypass UMD altogether and put their games on the playstation store.

When the PSP2 comes out in a couple years (2-3), with 4 gigs internal memory and a memory card slot as the way to store games, it will be cheaper than PSP started out with and we wont have to deal with UMD.

The PSP2 will definitely have some serious internal memory, DD has gone well for the PSP.

Sony cant go digital distribution only though, some kind of disc format will be needed.

The PSP and PS2 are Sonys money makers for them.

PS3.... At the moment is the money loser...

:D

Well RPG, it is making profit for them now, but we do not know R&D cost for the psp....so we will never know if the psp itself has been profitable.
