Forums - Sales - Mario Kart Wii is now the best selling game within 52 weeks from launch

Mario Kart Wii looks like a good candidate for the best selling non packed in non Wii Play game this generation. Wii Fit is the only other game that looks to have a shot. I don't see any PS3 or 360 game having the potential to sell that much. GTAIV can't get there, and even if it could it's across two platforms therefore should be concidered as two games. Nintendogs is over four different titles and that takes that out of the running.

Oh please do not start this argument back up.

If GTA IV counts all versions, so does Nintendogs.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

MKWii sells like a monster, and it wont stop i just wonder how much this game can sell in it's lifetime, because it seems many new Wii owners want it.

If multiplatform games can count, a possible further contender for this title (ok not the title as Mario Kart will definately keep that, but passing GTA:SA) is actually Call of Duty: World at War.

Call of Duty 4 after 52 weeks sold 10,369,634 copies across X360, PS3 and DS.

After 6 weeks of sales CoD: Waw is 2,119,588 ahead of what CoD4 was at after 6 weeks (2 additional platforms of Wii and PS2 helping a little, but most of the extra boost came from increases for the PS3 and 360 versions)

If it can keep that lead over it's older brother, WaW would have sales of around 12.5 million after 52 weeks..... GTA:SA on PS2 had about 12.15 million after 52 weeks, so the question is, could XB sales have been as low as 350k after 4 months, I say unlikely, but if CoD: WaW keeps increasing over CoD4 it might have an even bigger lead after 52 weeks.

I'm not surprised, it has a attach rate of 29.5% right now.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

One can only wonder at what the final sales tally will be?
My guess is somewhere around 25-30 m.

wiifit got screwed by the early japanese launch... I wonder if you align launches if MK wii will hold the title ( I think not, and definitly not by may or april)

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

Whoa, that's kinda cool. I thought GTA:SA XB was released over year after the Ps2 version though, so that messes things up a bit.

Okay, list including multiplats.

1. Mario Kart Wii -  12.9M (estimated to end at ~ 16M)

That one is fairly obvious. Then, there's the fight for 2nd.

GTA:SA ~ 12.75M (XB version sold 1.9M LT, so selling 1/3 of  that in the first 4 months seems reasonable)

Guitar Hero III (3) - 12.74M. I cannot bloody believe that this one sold this much. It's challenging Grand Theft Auto!

GTA IV - currently at 11.74M. So it needs ~ 1M beat GTA SA. It has 18 weeks. That's 50K/week. It should make this. In October, it sold 50K/week, but even if it dips a little, we can expect ~ 250K for the next 2 weeks (combined), meaning it only needs 45K/week for the rest of the time. Should end pretty much exactly tied with GTA:SA really.

CoD: WaW. Has already sold 5.35M, and it looks like it should be at ~ 6.5M by the end of the year. For a comparison, CoD 4 was at 6.03M, and had had a week of sales more. Has a shot at making it.

Wii Sports Resort? Quite possible. I doubt it though (I see it more at ~ 8M)

Guitar Hero World Tour? Sold 4431K in 8 weeks, but as the Ps2 is no longer as important, I doubt it has a chance (should still beat 10M though)

And then there's some other titles.

Wii Fit - 10.74M

CoD 4 - 10.23M

Noting anything interesting here? Yeah. There's just 3 publishers. Nintendo, Activision and Take 2.

That is VGChartz LONGEST review. And it's NOT Cute Kitten DS

The only reason that Mario Kart Wii sells so well is because it is the only good game on the Wii. :p
