Hahaha, I'm sorry I ever doubted you.

The entire industry is a bunch of unprofessional fanboys. Happy? Previous posters have explained how I felt better. I would never have thought youd be so defensive. I expect more from "professionals" In the end that I guess is what Im trying to send. 1UP has been the worst at bashing the Wii that I PERSONALLY have seen. So I had to point them out. Video game journalism is shit. It needs to mature. |
Yes, that actually satisfies me. I have no exception with saying the industry doesn't give casual games a fair shake, or pay much attention to the wii. That's true. But it is the view of almost the entire industry, and not some crusade by 1up to discredit the wii.
Videogame journalism like I said, isn't any worse than political or sports journalism. Would I like it to grow up? Of course. But I'd also like it if uber popular political commentators didn't promote songs like "Obama the Magic Negro" or stoop to publically calling political candidates "faggots". But that ain't happening any time soon. Ideally Rubang's concept of what videogame critisism should be is spot on, and hopefully in time there will be a handful of good intelligent fair critics that become popular, much in the way Tim Russert managed to be a fair objective, intelligent political commentator that rarely created a justified cause for calls of "foul". But that isn't going to change the fact that just like people watch fox news or MSNBC, people will continue to listen to 1up and IGN, and gametrailers. Even if you disagree with it's views. And if somebody comes up to offer an alternative form of "Snobcore" that shuns shooters and high budget cutting edge productions in favor of the Wii (that would still be snobcore, just the other side of the coin), you can damn well bet that will get an audience too, most likely by a number of people here.
If Rubang had a site that did what he describes, I'd be there in a heartbeat, I'd even be willing to contribute. Like Ghandi said, be the change you want to see.

You can find me on facebook as Markus Van Rijn, if you friend me just mention you're from VGchartz and who you are here.

I agree with this. I quite liked their article discussing Nintendo's "demographic change" or whatever you wish to call it. One of the few critiques of Nintendo's new strategy that wasn't swimming with inaccuracies, bad arguments, or general jackassery.
As for the OP: The podcast is called "1up Yours," i know you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, but in this case it might give a slight hint about the level of discourse. I never liked it from the start, long before the gaming media turned on Nintendo.
The vagabond is partially right. It might be a bit harsh, but Nintendo really hasn't been very reassuring to the core gamer. Last E3 was light on content, and none of the promising stuff at the Fall Conference really had a solid date nailed down. It's never particularly wise to leave your customers guessing, but that's just Nintendo's way.Where he's somewhat wrong is that the accepted level of discourse in game journalism is too low. Certainly there is flame-bait among politics and sports news, but that sort of thing is generally frowned upon. Jesse Jackson talked of chopping off Obama's nuts, and he was called out for it and thoroughly chastised, but jackasses run around in the game journalism all the time, and only rarely get called out. The half-truths and snarky methods printed about Nintendo should be booed down out of existence, like when a joystiq blogger claimed that it would be 2-3 years until more core games from Nintendo, but instead gamers accept this childish level of discourse
And it might partially be that. Since Nintendo is keeping everyone in the dark, the big outlets have nothing nice to say, and bitch about that fact.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
I just wonder what these people would do if Sony or Microsoft (or both) got out of gaming because it was too detrimental to its (their) bottom line(s).
Then they would have to talk positively about Nintendo -- because their jobs would depend on it.
I have no problem with people having opinions. I do have a problem when they try to state those opinions to be fact. I also have problems with ill-informed opinions. This podcast seems to have both issues.

Awesome! I'll start a game review site when I graduate and I'll have one reader/contributor!

"Why the fuck do Dreamcast games looke better than Wii games" "Im afraid DQ X will look worse than DQVIII" "Name me 5 Wii games in 09" "I dont know.. "Name 5 Wii games worth playing" "........" "The Wii doesnt count its in its own market" "I thought this was a gaming Podcast" "Lets get to the big boys 360/PS3." These guys are the so called "proffesionals" and just look at all the bulllshit they say. I stopped the podcast afterwards. IGN has been pretty big on the Wii bashing lately also. Craig Harris (Matt barely) are probably the only voice for the Wii at IGN. 1UP sound like nothing more that rabbid graphic whores and fanboys. Edit - My main point is not to neccasarilly defend the Wii but to point out how fucked up video game journalism is. These are the professionals in the industry we love and yet they all sound no different than the people on our boards. I expect maturity and respect from out "professionals" but of course Im wrong. Im still waiting for the video gaming industry to grow up. I have a feeling its going to take a long time. |
it's everywhere but mainly because of the games not wii, or nintendo.
but all consoles get that , ps3 360, just because it's nintendo it doesn't mean its going to be respected by everybody.
trying to insult them can't hurt them in the end you are just going to their level and even worse.
Boys from 1UP can say whatever they want and whatever their hardore souls believe in, in Reality whatever they say does not matter to most of people and most of gamers, i always support well thought and constructed arguments in any debate but those "hardcores" are just being ignorant.

Not only in that department. Not to rain on anyones parade but the wii isn't able to calculate the same complex calculations which means worse AI, less things happening at the same time and overall effects the entire game. now i'm not saying that it's bad but it's definately inferior in other departments than graphics alone.

Is the Wii less powerful than the PS3 or Xbox 360 -- duh?
Is the Wii less powerful than the PS2 or DC (or Xbox or GC) -- of course not?
The podcast is making the second claim, which is false, not the first, which is true.
