Interesting thread. Too much posturing in here. WKC sold well. Period. The number are more impressive when you consider the Famitsu review the game received. After the Famitsu review I didn't know what to expect from WKC's sales. I should end up as the best selling JRPG in Japan in a few weeks.

@Montana

Sorry but, Celine is correct. Level 5 isn't some lesser known developer and Sony has been hyping White Knight Chronicles for sometime.

True, though it does seem slated below Rogue Galaxy, making it a step back for the company when most people were expecting better then Rogue Galaxy numbers.

I'd say it's nothing to be sad about, but nothing to be really happy about either.   It sold Good/ok... but slightly below expectations.

I was predicting 130k first week, not 130k first day.

I think it can reach my estimated lifetime of 300k in Japan now.

I think it is to early to tell whether it will sell less, the same or more than Rogue Galaxy at this point. The first week sales could be very similar. Rogue galaxy did 226K and if you add 70% of WKC's first day sales to get the first week sales it comes out as 224K. It really depends on the legs of WKC.

Actually, if you consider the current PS3 userbase and the userbase of the PS2 when Rogue Galaxy came out, WKC is actually doing better.

132,000 firstday translates into:

180,000 copies first week (not huge sales for WKS if you compare to ToV 105K and TLR 105K on a 1/3 Japanese X360 installed base compared to PS3)

and

rufly 300,000 copies lifetime in Japan for WKC.

Based on these numbers I'd say worldwide lifetime 700,000 copies.

Again, Install base =/= Sales.

Just because something has triple the install base, doesn't mean it needs to sell triple the units.  I'll posted this in another thread:

If it's all isntall base, then how can CoD: WaW PS3 or CoD: WaW 360 > CoD: WaW Wii?

How is DMC4 PS3 > DMC4 360?

How is Burnout Paradise PS3 not too far behiind BP 360?  Should be much lower considering install bases.

And PES and Fifa PS3 > 360.

The argument is fundamentally flawed, and when brough into any argument shows true desperation from the poster that is unable to concede that they were incorrect.

It's not one or the other!

Stop talking for a second, THE XBOX 360 HAS 1\3 THE INSTALL BASE IN JAPAN.

ONE THIRD!

The crap you've listed is already well known for selling better on PS3 due to popularity in europe (FIFA), legacy of the series (Burnout\DMC).

It's fairly obvious who the trolls in this thread are, and I had never had any respect for them in the first place. What else is new?

You can preach installed base, attach rates, budgets and development time 'til your mouth turns dry. It doesn't mean anything to the developers and publishers. Third parties are going to see that an original IP from a less known developer has done better than anything on the 360, JRPG or otherwise (Japan only). It will help slow traction with the 360 in eastern markets, and that's significant.

It makes me very sad to see such heated arguments over freakin' first day sales, not even complete numbers. If you don't own a PS3, never intend to play the game, and aren't going to say anything nice about it...why are you in this thread? Leave. You have plenty of JRPGs to talk about on your own system.

But you still had to stick your nose into the argument with your point of view?

This is a SALES thread not a FAN SERVICE thread. Why should people not say what they want. This is the 1st proper RPG for the PS3 and people are comparing its performance with the RPGs on the 360.

Maybe it is you who should leave the thread? Go and play with your happy toys ;)

@ Frosty Top

I think you're pressing your luck bro...

@ Montana

I agree with you, but it was expected. It seems like no matter what PS3 does, they'll always be a select few that want to see it fail. Luckily, the PS3 is a great system and will be just fine...

its the fanboys in the live stream of wkc, we have whole stream some guys talking shit about wkc, trying to bring it down.

Current userbase is going to change the numbers?

You don't get paid via attach rate, you get paid per copy sold.

It depends on the legs, but i think you've got to look at what creates legs in the first place.

Which when it comes to JRPGS in Japan is mostly buying new consoles. (Since they tend to have crappy legs.)

It'd seem highly likely JRPG legs on PS3 should be lower then equivlent PS2 legs.

Sure FF13 will create a big boost... but it will be for Final Fantasy 13 another JRPG.

The best hope would have to be Yakuza 3.

Shit...I might lose my bet :/

Told you 100k was way too less.

Yeah you did.....maybe the sales weren't affected by the score to the extend I thought they would be...
