Hmm looks like my 140k first day and 200k first week got really close :)
I'd say there's good chance at 400k Japan lifetime and 1M WW lifetime.

I think WKC will sell overall around 300K copies in Japan.

It's fairly obvious who the trolls in this thread are, and I had never had any respect for them in the first place. What else is new?
You can preach installed base, attach rates, budgets and development time 'til your mouth turns dry. It doesn't mean anything to the developers and publishers. Third parties are going to see that an original IP from a less known developer has done better than anything on the 360, JRPG or otherwise (Japan only). It will help slow traction with the 360 in eastern markets, and that's significant.
It makes me very sad to see such heated arguments over freakin' first day sales, not even complete numbers. If you don't own a PS3, never intend to play the game, and aren't going to say anything nice about it...why are you in this thread? Leave. You have plenty of JRPGs to talk about on your own system.

Are you talking about WKC ?
Come on, WKC was the flagship SCEJ JRPG for the past 3 years and you are talking like it is a surprising hit when it is doing in the norm imo ( from what first day sale can mean ).
Level5 is a "less known developer" ? They have developed a lot of JRPG for SCEJ on PS2, Layton is insanely popular serie in Japan and they are the coders of Dragon Quest VIII and IX. How can they be "less known developer" than other ones in Japan ?
I remember there was a time where a Sony fan would have laugh at the 360 performance in Japan but now that the PS3 sales are so low and that MS is buying JRPG exclusive there is a need to "slow traction with the 360 in eastern markets".

"Flagship SCEJ JRPG for the past 3 years" is like saying you're the flagship Sega SRPG. I don't remember a lot of hype for this game back in 2005, but then again, I wasn't checking gaming sites as much.
Apparently you missed the meaning of me saying they were lesser known. They are lesser known than developers/publishers such as Namco Bandai and Square Enix, although perhaps more known than Spike or Nippon Ichi. There are a lot of examples of developers and/or publishers they could be more or less known than.
And by the way, are you just going to quote everything I say? By slowing traction, I meant that the game could help (if only a small amount) to convince Japanese developers that the PS3 is an able platform for selling their RPGs (since it hasn't proven it can yet and the 360 has proven it can to a small degree). The 360 has become more favorable among some developers during their use for developing games (often partially funded by Microsoft). It doesn't even have to do entirely with sales.

Bolded ones make me laugh aloud. In Japan Level5 is a famous developer ( and publisher thanks to the Layton serie on DS ).
How could you be not famous if you do the coding for Dragon Quest games ?
The problem of the JRPG genre is that its primary market ( the japanese one ) is declining ( have you seen the declining of the Tales of serie in the past years ? ) and that if you want to make a JRPG with top graphic on PS3 or Xbox360 you'll need to spend a lot on the assets despite the fact that the userbase of Xbox360 and PS3 combined in Japan is relatively small ( and if you can't recoup the costs in Japan you hardly do on western regions unless you are named Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts ).
It is really unsurprisig that publishers like SquareEnix and Namco are accepting funding by MS for their most costly JRPG ( they can release the same game on the PS3 too ).
And it is unsurprising that JRPG are flocking on DS.

Interesting thread. Too much posturing in here. WKC sold well. Period. The number are more impressive when you consider the Famitsu review the game received. After the Famitsu review I didn't know what to expect from WKC's sales. I should end up as the best selling JRPG in Japan in a few weeks.
@Montana
Sorry but, Celine is correct. Level 5 isn't some lesser known developer and Sony has been hyping White Knight Chronicles for sometime.
