Forums - Sony - Sony cant cut the price

So they won't.. as long as I get my games and we get a PS4... I'm cool. The Wii's first and trouncing anyway, what are you gonna run after for? the hardcore userbase? they go to where the games are... just bring 'em affordably next gen.

I am sure they have I mean it has good capabilities that will make it last that long.

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

IMO the PS3 is already a future-proof machine. :/

^_^

Damn.

It's really weird, but the less PS3 that are sold at a loss, and more software being sold is actually a pretty good thing, financially, for Sony. Since software/accessories is where the money is, lower PS3 sales than last year is probably going to help the financials look crappy, instead of really crappy.

I think sony will report profit this quarter for there gaming division.

WIth the combination of success of PSP software in japan, and an impressive amount of Hardware sales for the psp, as well as PS2 hardware, ps2 software, ps3 software, PSN sales, I think they might really make profit on there gaming division.

We will see..

You know, make up your mind.

On one hand, you want them to cut the price to $299. On the other, you said they can't price cut.

So...

Here's an idea. Let them buy back all their PS3. Voila, they are making back all the lost money!!

Price alone won't solve Sony's woes, Leo-J. Lowering the price or not, the PS3 isn't offering what the Wii - or the 360 can ATM. The Wii is a nongamer's delight - you can play and interact with games - and you can't do that on the PS3. You can also enjoy a ton of older GC and Xbox games on both systems. They both represent value. Folks can play most of their older games on the Wii and 360. The PS3 shot itself in the foot by leaving out BC with the newer models.

Yes, a price cut would help but also hurt Sony. It is something they will need to think about long and hard - but no money is a horrible situation regardless.

@leo-j

Are you saying this revelation descended upon you today. Looks to me like someone found some common sense under the tree, or did the Christmas spirit knock loose an untethered idea. I wonder who put that idea there. Perhaps dozens of posters who have been telling you the same thing for the past six months to no avail.

This reminds me of a saying about rats being the first to abandon a sinking ship. Perhaps with the rumored price cut being less then two months away. You want to distance yourself from being perceived as a true believer. Well I suppose you have learned something in all the time you have been here. Basically to get out when the getting is good. That is actually quite clever of you. I will remember to heap praise upon you when the rumor does not come to pass. Just don't go wavering on this in the next month, and you should be golden.

edit: by the way the ps1 library is larger than the xbox and gamecube.
