Forums - Sales - How is "I have a feeling game X is undertracked/overtracked" accepted?

This is something that is happening more and more on VGChartz. Threads about people having a "hunch" that a game is incorrectly tracked. The proof is generally bullocks, and is generally something ala "it was sold out", or "there were more copies of it than of SMG in stores".

Perhaps worse, is that this is starting to get accepted as truth. The general feeling on the Nintendo board on VGChartz, is now that CoD:WaW is undertracked, despite having only anedoctal proof of this (I use Nintendo as it is the one I know that most about, not because it is especial for the Nintendo forum).

I apologize if this seems like a rant, but it is simply ridiculous, and I really think this trend should be stopped.

the thing i hate the most is when people say vgchartz is fake whenever a game bombs and has low sales

I think it is ridiculous, too.

i think its fine if you have evidence, but some people just say it because they are blinded by fanboyism.

I agree. There was once when Mario Kart Wii had been higher on NPD than VGChartz (more than 25% higher each time) for 4 months in a row, that someone (I think RolStoppable) claimed it was undertracked (in the U.S). It ended up correct.

That's completely fine. No problem, he had proof. But in most cases (like with CoD:WaW), it is just random anedoctal evidence.

actually i need to reword that, if you have significant evidence to say otherwis e i think it's fine.

I agree, and I really hate it when people use shipped numbers as sold and says the game is undertracked.

I do however agree with people stating facts for games beng over/undertracked such as I believe Gears of War 1 is over tracked. Do I have proof? No, but Epic said that the game had sold about 5 million copies, and if you know how PR works then you would know any company would be more then happy to specify that their game had sold more then 5 million if it had and we have it at what? 5 and a half million?

Yeah, it's lame. Ditto with the "Console X is over/undertracked" stuff.

CoD: WAW on Wii could be undertracked and there are reasons to why people believe that. But if it is undertracked, then the numbers will probably be changed later on just like with other games.

Or maybe it ain't undertracked at all.
