Forums - Microsoft - Can these 4 exclusives hold the fort against the assault of KZ2 in Q1?

Microsoft is spreading the net wide during that time frame. Sony is really answering a specific question. The problem is that Microsoft already answered this particular question a long time ago. If your a hardcore shooter fan you know which console will answer that particular need.

Sony has Resistance, Resistance 2, Killzone 2, and Haze.
Microsoft has Halo 3, Gears of War, Gears of War 2, Left 4 Dead, and ODST.

Microsoft has this particular market locked. They have two titles in two renowned franchises before the end of the year, and I have little doubt that Left 4 Dead is a sleeper hit having played the game. The releases for Microsoft in this time period are more like answering three different questions or needs. They are answering Action, Strategy, and Role playing.

it is interesting to se the spread, but i still have yet to find the RTS that playes better on the console then the pc... it, and TBS are the two game types that have never transleted well on the console.. they are playable and can be fun, but not as good as on the pc... i do like that they are trying, and will demo the game, but i doubt it will be a major hit,... unless the halo name drags it there

Same with new ip..for any console

Assassin's Creed and Gears?

It'll be interesting to see what affect Killzone 2 has on the sales gap between the consoles. Maybe the 360 will only increase its lead by an additional 100,000 during the month that Killzone 2 releases.

Depends on whether or not PS3 owners will actually buy this game.  For whatever reason Resistance 2 and LBP have not sold what they should, not that they have sold horrible but not where they should.

you know, when i first heard that some people were buying ps3s for blueray only i pegged that at 3% at most. however with things like this where games underperform id raise that number ... up to 25% i clearly might, and i hope im wrong. However if this is true it means that sony pushing it as a blueray player was far more effective then i imagined, and wonder how sales would  be if they pushed it as a gaming device over an entrtainment device

I am so glad Microsoft is spreading out their releases into different genre as much as possible. In Q1 we have games that covered all genre. More variety the better, I might say. Now some of these games might not be AAA or even AA, but catering to all type of gamers is an important strategy.

Action = Ninja Blade
Sandbox = GTA: The Lost and the Damned
Survival Horror = RE5
Fighter = SF4
RTS = Halo Wars
JRPG = Star Ocean
FPS = F.E.A.R 2
Racing = Race Pro
Western Rpg = Sacred 2: Fallen angel

Hyping games, especially ones that don't come from strong franchises usually leads to disappointment.

Fixed?

OT:

Is KZ2 going to be an assault?  I'm not too concerned about it pushing hardware, I believe that won't be too big of an issue, I think people are more concerned about software.  Now, MGS4 had Japan, so I'll discount those sales, but I'd be extremely disappointed, if WW first week the game didn't clear 900k+.  This game is going to be great, and with all the hype, I'll be devastated if this game isn't near a million on a bigger userbase than MGS4 launched, and lower projected first week sales.

Of course that's IMO.

you do know MGS is a much bigger franchise than KZ, right? That franchise is universally accepted in all regions. Killzone will not sell in Japan so that is a big disadvantage.

Also, I wouldn't be surprise if Halo Wars, Resident Evil 5, and SF4 all outselling Killzone on there respective first week of launch. I wish Killzone will sell a Sh!t load because it will help the PS3. But KZ2 has to get great WOM and great Metacritic scores in order to do that.

The only games that will effect hardware sales at all in Q1 are Star Ocean 4 and Yakuza 3 in Japan, for the 360 and ps3 respectively.

Edit:  Oh yeah.  Then there's the FFVII Advent Children Blu-Ray that comes with the 2 hour long FFXIII demo hitting in March in Japan.  That'll probably move some systems too, much like GT5 Prologue.

A bit optimistic, eh?  Even LBP didn't come close to that, and it was hyped much higher than KZ2, and will probably be the one with a higher metacritic in the end.  And it released over the holidays.

Unless Sony cooks up some amazing marketing for Killzone 2, it won't break the 900k mark first week like Gears of War did.  The game is pratically a new IP, as it doesn't have the fanbase most sequels count on for sales the first week, given the quality of the first game.  Unless Sony thinks of something even more brilliant than the "Mad World" campaign, Killzone 2 will be lucky to sell 600k the first week.
