My parents were strict christians, which meant we did not do christmas as it is a pagan feast (the bible doesn't follow birthdays, only date of death... like the christian passover) but followed god's holidays as laid in the bible. This meant I would get gifts around september/october for another religious holiday (date varies as the bible uses a lunar calendar) but as my father would get lower prices on christmas goods via his factory I would get MORE gifts around chritsmas as well. I say around because as we did not do christmas we did not have to wait half our holiday to get the gifts on the 25th but could play with them as soon as the holiday started.
So not doing what everybody is doing can sometime have advantages too
