 I am, on the PS2.Im making a discussion here on how SONY should save their gaming division but since everyone bashes me I might aswell leave this thread.

Probably because this is a "Gaming Sales" site.  And the more losses Sony racks up the less chance there will be of a price cut, which means less likely hood of sales maybe?

Maybe. but its also because SONY make the PS3 cost 599 dollars at launch, horrible E3 unlike Ninty, and shifting their demographics. Most games made from the Ps3 are either shhoters or RPGs. Even with the pricecut I think that will not change anything. Just look at the 360's situation sure the sales increased but the wii still beating it on sales.

Like I said, SONY should focus more on PS2 make the PS3 sell but make it slowly phased out in retailers not sudden and make another console from scratch, and make their business ideas on PSX and PS2 applied in their new console. Their playstation brands arent really for core gamers you know... DDR, rhythm games, guitar hero, and singstar came from PSX and PS2. And most of these games hits the mainstream market why their Playstation brands are popular. Nintendo only doing this on the Wii added with the new innovative controller. Why this casual approach arent doing by SONY I dont know.

Sony simply cannot give up on the PS3 now. They have invested to much in it and they are in a sink or swim situation. They will live or die by how well the system does over the next 3 or 4 years, if not sooner.

While I do agree with you about Sony totally screwing up this gen. I still think they can save, the PS3. Not by price cuts, but by withering the storm until they are profitable. Which means they may finish third this gen but they will atleast finish. If they do a price cut and it fails then they have simply lost billions more and the entire Company may fail. And this would not be a good thing for any of us, not just gamers.

 But the Playstation brand was already tarnish and I doubt SONY cant get up I dunno, but SONY could become SEGA in the coming years. The PS3 really screw the Playstation brand up. I think the HD model really will crash the industry.

And yeah, Im posting on this section right now because the Wii and the general Nintendo products isnt getting interesting right now, OH! The software and hardware sales is dominating the competition every week. WOO! So whats new?

 Whats the betamax complex? We sometimes plays the betamax till VHS hits mainstream and outphased betamax but what really happened? Betamax was fine to me. Only smaller than VHS :?

Sony regularly comes up with new proprietary formats : Betamax, Minidisk, UMD, Blu-Ray...

They take huge risks everytime and have overall lost a lot of money because of it. Usually when launching a new format you try to play it safe, looking for partners (DVD was widely backed up before launch), answering needs to ease up switching costs (the simplicity of iPod), prolongating natural tendencies of the market instead (immaterial content for example), etc.

 

And the PS3 was the frontload hardware for this? Is PS3 really just a hardware to help push blu ray? Without bias or fanboyism please answer.

Seem SONY wants to even gamble their hardware brand just to dominate their formats against Toshiba...

The PS3 really needs Blu-Ray for the long run. It's not a SDTV targeted console like the PS2 or Wii.

People aren't well educated with regard to its gaming benefits. Scratch resistance, streaming strengths and most important, enough storage to have top quality graphics and audio without too many sacrifices. Adding playback software for Blu-Ray movies just makes a lot of sense.

The benefits of Blu-Ray are IMO already obvious in exclusives and there's plenty of headroom left for developers to tap into. This while multi-platform games developers and 360 exclusive developers already make sacrifices to still fit on 6.8 GB dual layer 360 DVDs.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune would have been a less impressive game without Blu-Ray, the same for Motorstorm Pacific Rift, the upcoming Killzone 2 would also have become a less impressive game without Blu-Ray, etc. I am happy the PS3 comes with this state of the art technology out of the box.

I love the movie feature, but for games it's IMO equally important.
