Forums - Sony - Play magazine gives heavenly sword 10/10?

friedtofu: I suspect he either has sex with the games or has gone to war and returned safely with them to obtain that much of an emotional attachment to them when he claims the story itself is unwarranting of it. Let's translate:

Things are animated so fluidly and well that portions that aren't as detailed stand out like a naked hitchhiker. The story sucks like a nuclear Hoover, but the art is beautiful. Overall, this game is inferior to Gears of War, but it's clear that in both titles, a lot of effort and shine was placed into them, but Gears succeeded in places where Resistance did not.

is play a playstation mag? I thought this mag was like Super Play in Sweden = multiplat.

Resistance for me is superior to Gears of War in almost every aspect, except for some flashy graphics. The PC version will likely be better as you can actually fight an impressive end-boss. Although I don't nearly hate Gears as much as my girlfriend does, I would give the game a 7.5-8.0. IMO also Rainbow Six Vegas for both the XBox 360 and PS3 is a much deeper game.

PS3 vs 360 sales

MikeB: I actually havn't played Gears of War, I was translating the flowery prose of Brady Fietcher. So I cannot give a valid comparison.

I have played Resistance however, and most likely, being a Rambo style player, enjoyed it more than I will Gears, where apparently I need to take cover like a pansy. He's wearing an enormous suit of Armour, has a chainsaw on his gun, and hides behind concrete barriers because of some bullets flying around.

This has gotten off topic. Though tommorow I may actually get to play with a 360 and thus can have an opinion on it!

Play magazine is a european magazine of some type, but it is NOT a playstation mag. It has quite a bit of PC stuff too. It's one of my favorite magazines. They actually write stuff that I care about. I usually like their reviews quite well. If they give it a 10. I'd say it's a damn good game.

Sonic for the PS3/360, had some MAJOR problems. But I've also read it was a GREAT game if you could igore those few... *NASTY* problems.

Gears was mostly fun for me the first couple of minutes, but became repetitive quickly and after finishing the game I wondered: "Why is this worth the hype?". IMO the game is too restricted and linear with its environments, IMO the short vehicle section plainly sucks, the story-telling is subpar, the crouched running is unrealistic (I'm a physical therapist), etc.

IMO the game has too many flaws. With regard to multi-player Gears is good, but likewise is Resistance. There are few highlights, the beserker I liked the most but you can only hurt it using one specific weapon, IMO making it all feel too scripted for this kind of game.

Heavenly Sword, judging from the short demo seems like an excellently polished game. May well be in the same league as the God of War games, but overall with even better graphics. Some great acting and facial expressions too.

if this games averages a 9 across the board im jumping in the ps3 bandwagon.. btw guys what other games did this magazine give 10's to?. cuz 9 might be an easy score to give compared to a 10. like if they gave 29 9's and only one 10 that one 10 must be something really special =3

Reviews will always be subject to suspision, but some are more dubious than others, Play Magazine, despite who we say the pitch for is still pretty slanted. That doesn't take away from the fact that its still a matter that stands to be posted and is worthwhile in its own right as a topic.

At least this thread can serve to educate newcomers not familiar with the magazine of what weight to give its reviews.

Hmm, pretty harsh... I didn't play Gears but as for me it looks more fun than Resistance (which is solid)... For me Resistance isn't anything special. Gears has this special something...
