Forums - Gaming - Ubisoft: Disapointed by Prince of Persia's poor reception

Originality is not needed for games. Mad World has a cool art style, but the rest of the game seems like Manhunt. But if the game is as good as we hope, it will be Manhunt done right. Isn't that just as good as being original?

Same with Bayonetta possibly being what Bullet Witch could have been.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

The game was EXTREMELY weak. It wasn't good at all. It was GREAT for the first 30 minutes then you just realized you just press A at the right time and you are done.

Just like every other platformer ever made...

False, in this PoP you need no tming no nothing, you jsut press A and hte cutscene starts.

Wait are we talking about Super Mario Bros.?

Adding a little something expanded ontop of a proven concept is not innovation, nor would I take into account sales on the PS3 or even 360 as proving ground for a new idea. Now, throw a game like Zach and Wiki into the Wii fray and watch it slowly rise to 500,000 or a unique design like De Blob, Elebits, or World of Goo and then you might have more to base a decision. Put innovation where innovation is appreciated, otherwise just make your game as realistic and epic as possible and charge $60 for it on PS3 or 360. Sorry if that sounded too harsh, but developers jump to conclusions for entirely wrong reasons.  What, they can't remember how awesome of a reception they got when they made Sands of Time which provided completely new and innovative gameplay?  Come on.

As MMnin said, their conclusions are based on the wrong info. We are interested in new things otherwise we would not have the franchises we have today. But what makes an original push upward? That's a question.

With PoP and Mirrors edge it's easy. A combination of public/demographic, timing and reviews.

Who where going to be interested in Pop and ME? Us, the people online who watch gametrailers for our future wishlist.
Then who starts to watch reviews online? Us again... Adn we noticed two things: PoP was to easy, and ME to short. We gamers combine this with the fact that our budget only allows for one, maybe two games (or parents are only happy to buy one game.)
And indeed, with timing as Fallout 3, GoW 2 etc comming out, we prefer to spend our money on a game that's worth it's mone in measures of enjoyment, time spent, etc.

Well they had to compete with a bunch of blockbusters on HD consoles, Next time just develop a Wii Exclusive title and it would sell more then Rabbids.

Plus HD owners really love their realistic graphics.

I expected Prince of Persia to have a lackluster reception. The only reason Assassins Creed did so well was because it was a graphical powerhouse in 2007. If it were released today, the game would bomb. I get PoP tomorrow, and I intend to enjoy it. Still, even the originals (wich were great games) were not smash hits. Ubi (EA?) should've seen this coming.

Graphics are important.

they have sold around 700k copies on the ps360.. lifetime should be near 1.5mil which isnt bad at all. They will clearly make a decent profit out of it. There are waaay to many titles to pick from right now, it should have legs though.

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.

5 THINGS I'd like to see before i knock out:

a. a AAA 3D sonic title

b. a nintendo developed game that has a "M rating"

c. redesgined PS controller

d. SEGA back in the console business

e. M$ out of the OS business
