That pic is dishonest, it exaggerates the difference between HD and SD far too much.

I play my X360 on both SD and HD (including the game on the first pic, Kameo) and first, Ive never seem those ugly horizontal lines like on the SD pics above, and second, the lighting/gamma is totally messed up on these SD screens while in reality it is slightly better on SD (because they are CRT TV-screens).

That is actually pretty accurate.
the horizontal lines are there because the SDTV where that pic was taken from uses interlace.
480i i meaning 480 interlaced vs 1080p p meaning progressive.
If you don't believe me, take a picture of your SDTV and HDTV, you'll see the same results.

Of course a still image exacerbates the lines, because the TV refreshes at a fast enough rate where the naked eye would have trouble distinguishing the lines unless the person is sitting very close.

This is true.  Basically, you are looking at a SDTV picture on your computer monitor, which is a much higher resolution.  That is why it looks so odd.  It is the same thing that happens when you play a PS2.  It looks bad because you can see the inperfections.  It looks better if you play it on a SDTV.

You are of course correct. I'm aware of CRT doin interlace. But just as u say a still screenshit does injustice to an SD interlaced screen, because in practice u hardly notice it.

Upclose, SDTV would look like that but if your standing like 5 ft away, SDTV doesnt look too bad. Id say HDTV is better just because you can read words more easily on the screen but the refresh rate can be sometimes a problem with some games like GH3 where you have to allign it. Otherwise, looking at a SDTV 5 ft away looks gr8 for gaming. When watching a DVD on a SDTV, might not be the best and the blacks might look horrible. But the difference standing far away is hardly noticible.

Above I'm a proud Gran Turismo fan, not a Sony fanboy, and now a proud 360 owner, but sharing xbox live accts ATM

End of 2009 Predictions (made Jan 1, 2009): My predictions were pretty accurate, the 360 was over and the Wii was just under.

Wii: 65 mil (yea I'm crazy) 360: 35 mil (its getting there) PS3: 30 mil (the slim better do well)

End of 2010 Predictions (made Jan 7, 2010):

Wii: 81 mil  360: 47 mil PS3: 45 mil

It's all a scam. There's no difference at all.

I mean, combine the letters in SDTV and HDTV, and what do you get? They left so many clues...

That is VGChartz LONGEST review. And it's NOT Cute Kitten DS

Why is the thread messed up?

It really depends on your personal preferences. Some people, after being exposed to HD, find it as jarring to go back to SD as going back to black and white from color. I, however, among others, find the difference between resolutions to be negligible, i find that it's about input cable, the difference between Composite and Component, VGA, HDMI, etc, being the key issue

It will make a difference either way, but it depends on your preference as to whether it's the "essential" difference

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
