Not really, if Halo was multiplatform, it would probably be over 13 million.

i m sorry but if halo was multipalt ,,Microsoft insane  marketing and hype machine was not behind it and there is no way in hell halo can sell 8 million copies on its own merits.

Yeah, I mean, if Halo 3 didn't have that huge marketing campaign, especially after two successful games and establishing itself as the king of FPSs, it would be below COD4. I mean, the hype and marketing is what sells Halo. The game has nothing to do with it.

Sales wise yes. But 5 years from now counterstrike will still be played more. Im waiting for a new cs to be announced. (and i dont count cs:online)

I said halo hype meaning from halo1 all the way to 3 .

Yup, it's the current FPS king.

What franchise will be able to topple it though? It won't be Halo or Killzone, or any other exclusive shooter.

I honestly don't think there's anything on the horizon with the potential this gen.

Wii Slay.

This isn't about the quality of Halo .... it's about its sales, which are massive, and would only be HUGER if multiplatform.

The "Halo Hype" began with Halo 2, anyway. Advertisements do not sell games, people buy them - look at LBP's marketing and look at its sales. God forbid people actually enjoy games for its own merits. =\

I think COD is the new strongest shooter franchise, COD can be milked much more then Halo can. A new COD can come out every 1 or 2 years without people complaining about milking the franchise. They can't bring out a new Halo every year, you can say a COD won't make more then Halo in a single console but add up all COD in a given time and compare to a Halo in a given time- COD will win out.

Maybe in 4 years one new halo game will be out making money but there will be 3-4 COD games out in that time frame making money. Though there are new Halo spinoffs coming out so they are finding ways to milk the franchise but those aren't the main games.

This isn't about quality but I would just address that, of course marketing will effect sales of games- that is the whole point of marketing and Halo has received one if not the biggest marketing of all games ever.

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

unitl on one console it outstrips halo 3 in sales its still second best .... though do like it better then halo... but rainbowsix vegas 2 better then both

Thats harsh though ne? COD games are multi-plat so many of the 360 sales could go to PS3, I think it's just time everyone admits COD is now top of the crop.

in terms of sales no, halo 3 has it per one console, in terms of game play no rainbow six vegas 2 beats it, in terms of fun no to many games to count beat it.   its a great game lots of people love it, it is a great franchise now  and hopefully they will keep it that way, i hold it above gears in terms of quality and fun... and really i cant hate a game with a flame thrower in it......
