Forums - General - When gaming reaches photo-realism...

Don't show any blood, or guts, or whatever. Done.

I'm not sure if i believe games will ever become photo realistic. I don't know if you guys have heard about the uncanny valley, it's a theory that has to do with robots and CGI. Basically the more realistic a robot, CGI movie or video game gets, the more positive and empathetic out emotional response will be up until a certain point, beyond that point most will be repulsed by it.

If you look at different video game characters you may notice that many of them have a few features exaggereated to give them a sort of cartoony, possibly so that the will be not real enough to fall into the uncanny valley, even in games heralded for their graphics (gears of war comes to mind.)

I think the problem is that Sony/MS/Nintendo all refuse to license AO games on their consoles. I hate this theory that adults should not be able to buy whatever they want. Who are they trying to protect? Definitely these games should no be sold to minors, but I don't see why adults cannot play these games.

what do you reckon would happen if a game came out where you play a terrorist? you just know if that happens it will be rockstar.

erm... nothing?

There seems to be this mistaken impression that games where you play as certain types of people will turn you into those people. There is absolutely no evidence that backs this assertion, it's based completely on heresy and morons such as Jack Thompson who crave attention.

Help! I'm stuck in a forum signature!

Did you see gran turismo 5

oh, yes we already know "Gran Turismo 5 looks more realistic than a real car" ...wow my VW Golf will look more realistic in GT5...i've always thought that my own car was just not realistic enough.

I lol'd. Thanks for that. @Mitsuhide I think motion sensing will be the "new age" no more controllers (maybe) like dual shock.

You do know that six axis racing is better than wii mote racing :P

Opinion=/=Fact And everyone knows SIXAXIS is a cheap rip-off of the WR. And the WR is FAR more capable of things SIXAXIS can't do (this is a fact)

I can't believe you are actually arguing this!

Don't you know that Sixaxis racing is more realistic than real racing?

LMAO! That was classic, Your mother!

i know that and i agree. i meant what would happen in terms of censorship, if the game got noticed by the wrong people [ie, someone like Jack but with more influence] i would bet it could be banned in the US.

Maybe it's just cause I'm a girl (sensitive), that I wouldn't really like to see trips and such gushing out from a photo-realistic game... It's discusting... I don't mind blood, but trips and such, no thanks, I'll pass.

^^^ hear hear, basically said what i think, except much better explained than i ever have managed.
the Wind Waker is still one of the best looking games i own, better than TP, and better than RE4.
