Forums - Sales - Will the Wii outsell PS2?

I agree, thats why i said it "still does not" have the games, of course as it continues to sell more developers will start making games for the Wii, the question is will those games be enjoyable using the Wiimote and with graphics that dont compare to the competition

Given the sales figures that are so handily available on this site, I'd say graphics aren't as much of a selling point as people would like them to be.

Graphics are a huge selling point. So are classic controls. Wii waggle fests are horrible.

That's why you have 65 wii games.  You must be still trying to find one that isn't horrible.   ;)

and that's without any multi-platform rythm games like GH, RB or DDR.  You should try some of those.

PS2 is a videogame console. Wii is every kids fantasy, every woman's weight loss opportunity, every old person's chance to bowl again, every hardcore gamers chance to smile and have some fun, every mans chance to ski, play tennis and golf without ever paying for equiptment, flights or membership.

Which of those two will sell more? Jesus, isn't it bleeding obvious.

I hope it smashes every single record the PS2 created. I really think its impossible for competition to measure up to it from now on and motion is the thing people want.

BR could well be slowed considerably because of this.

Conclusion, how many fat people are there in the world? Yea, well that's how many Wii's there going to sell. ALOT

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Damn straight.  This guy speaks the truth.  I don't recall PS2 having Wii Sports or Wii Fit, which are both exclusive gaming revolutions that are changing the entire industry.

(@bolded part) And Nintendo did all that with software alone instead of Blu-Ray players, Netflix deals, or any other extra media stuff.  Nintendo didn't even need DVD playback.  They just needed games.

I am laughing my ass off from people in this thread.

The standard Sony fanboy response is

1: well, the PS2 is still selling. It's not dead (Even two years after it's successor came out)
2: When the Wii's successor comes out, it'll drop to zero sales within seconds.

Notice the conflict of these two sentences?

Furthermore, I think that Nintendo's completely apart from any generation cycle that Sony/MS run with. If the PS3 and 360 COMBINED can't beat the Wii, why would Nintendo care if they released a 720 or a PS4, which will most likely be the same old thing with better graphics?

Wii has more 20 million sellers than PS3 has 5 million sellers.

Why would reaching 100 million be too hard, they've reached 45 million in little over 25 months, and production has been ramped up so they'll probably reach the next 45 million even faster

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

Yeah, but in the Wii's case, those are married to the software and absolutely necessary for the software to work.

I can't say the same about Blu-Ray and stuff.  The various other media options add to a console's worth, but not to the fun factor of that console's software, and that's how these wars are won.
