 This is (sort of) possible.

Wii is at 68M when there's 3 weeks left of 09.

Sells 2.5M - 2M - 1.5M, and then dies down to January sales.

Makes perfect sense.

Summary of this thread -

Ninty fans and nuetral parties say the Wii will make it and make a compelling case by backing this up with logic, reason, trends, Wii/PS2 comparative sales, DS sales, etc.

Sony fans say the Wii won't make it and offer nothing to back up those claims.

That's a bit biased.

I'd say.

 

3 kinds of people in the thread.

1. People who are incredibly optimistic (compared to the rest) about the Wii. Claiming it will easily > 200M.

2. People who are incredibly pessimistic (compared to the rest) about the Wii. Claiming it will probably not > 100M.

3. People who do not fit the two above, and hit the more normal estimations at 120-180M.

 

What do they base it on?

1. Wii is breaking past trends by a huge amount, and will keep doing this.

2. Brandname is very important. Ps3 is likely to take off, hurting the Wii.

3. The Wii cannot really exceed 200M, due to population limits, or that the Wii is slightly beating past trends, and will stick to this.

@ Oyvoyvoyv: Maybe I'm not watching close enough, but I haven't seen anyone say anything about Wii sales reaching 200 million. Or if I did, I thought they were being sarcastic. :/
