I certainly have some pages bookmarked where "some" people and "a mod" said it would be lucky if it sold 500 k LOL?
it is a success and I hope it will sell more
finally, we can't just forget some of the other predictions claiming the game will sell a lot more than that but it doesn't matter anyway

 you mean....

Garcian Smith said: Anyway, I'm estimating under 100k first week worldwide, and maybe 500k lifetime.

twesterm said: Also, I don't think the game will actually bomb like say Zack and Wiki did. It will probably sell something in the area of 600k copies and eventually develop into a small ittle niche community. Sadly with the advertising and time spent on this game, 600k copies won't make them any money.

Undying said: We all know the game will most likly be great, but as history has taught us great=/= great sales.

Is there even a market for LBP? Will the game be a run away sucess? Lets take off our fanboy hats and really think about it.

I don't see this game doing very well. Who is the demographic for this game? Kids? Adults? Casual gamers? Hardcore gamers? Are there enough of that demographic on the PS3? Something just tells me that this game will not do well.

First week sales 100k

Life time 300k

Is 300k a flop for this game?

and I didn't even have iot bookmarked it was just a quick 5 minute search. Now imagine if I really felt like going through the thread especially before the "lbp will be huge" threads everday talking about how lbp will flop because they cant see appeal or the game looks dull.

lool at those prediction,,but i m sure there were some PS3 fans with unrealistic expectations as well. (5 million ltd)

crow served ;)

The bar for LBP's commercial success was set way too high, it would have had to outsell the PS3 to meet some VGCHARTZ' members' expectations.

fixed

we don't know what are sony expectations for this game

don't forget that media molecule doesn't even have 20 staff,,,so anything after probably 500K will transfer to profit for them.

Actually... we do. They said they think it could do as well as GT5:P... which has shipped and downloaded less than 2.5 million the time they said that

It was a success I agree. It's just some Sony fanboy's expectations (cough Gearbox cough cough) were a tad out of reach. The game by no means was a failure, the reason why people hate on it are because of the fanboys not because they don't own the game (or not just lol). Blame them >.>

YES, they WILL.
After LBP reach 5 mln. atleast. =)

GREAT PS3 AA GAMES always have GOOD legs, see Uncharted(over 2 mln.), HS(around 1,5 mln.), MGS4(around 4 mln.).

Every 5 seconds on earth one child dies from hunger...

2009.04.30 - PS3 will OUTSELL x360 atleast by the middle of 2010. Japan+Europe > NA.

Gran Turismo 3 - 1,06 mln. in 3 weeks with around 4 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.

Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.

1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.
PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.

PS3 may reach 5 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 50k.
PS2 2001 vs PS3 2008 sales numbers =) + New games released in Japan by 2009 that passed 100k so far

 Isn't gearbox Rock_on_2008? and I know Rock_on_2008 was a joke account.

@max: LOLZ,
I had some links but I couldn't find them, anyway one of them is for stickball stating : "it will be lucky if it sold 500k first week"
underline the word "lucky"

Our perception doesn't matter. LBP wasn't what we* OR Sony expected, but it was nowhere near a failure. It should find a home in PS3's for months to come. One more stellar game for a console with a lot of stellar games.

* By "we", I mean "you". Little Big Planet did pretty much what I figured it would.

If thats all that matters why do people like you keep whining about it not getting this recognition you think it deserves. Just enjoy the game if you like it and leave it at that.

Whining?

It means moaning or giving out.

ot It is another game for the system which certain players like.

That is a good thing imo.

I would not play this type of game but neither would I play a game like viva pinata say.

It is good to own a system that trys to cater for everybodys taste.

So LBP for the win.
