Forums - Sony - People are never going to see LBP as a success

I think as a game it is a success. But as playstation mascot game then no, not yet at least.

When you think of what made a console- you would think Mario for Nintendo (not just the main mario games but all the other mario based games, mario kart, SSB, etc.) and Halo for Xbox. Halo made xbox, when people think of xbox they think of Halo- its' their flagship series.

I doubt when people think of PS3- they think of LBP, also to have that happen the playstation install base needs to back it up. Many Xbox users have Halo, many Nintendo users played Mario at some point (over 7 mil units sold in this gen alone for each).

There is still a chance LBP could be their game, don't need to compare it to the explosive sales of Mario or Halo when they first came out, in a few years sales might climb pretty high.

I don't buy that. Lifetime the game will likely press 2 million, and the user content will give it a long shelf life. Give the game a year or so to get away from the hype, time for a $30 Platinum edition and the PS3 base to increase, and people will give it its due.

It is a success, but when Sony fans play up a game like lbp to be a super blockbuster title, then it's almost certain that anything less than amazing sales will disappoint and/or provide fodder for those who like to criticize.

Too many horrible predictions about lbp made this situation. Some actually believed that it would outsell fable 2 , an established franchise , in  both opening week and lifetime , which is just stupid.

To the guy saying lbp is a better platformer than mario. LBP is far from the platforming quality of mario , if lbp was strictly a platformer it wouldnt even get an average 70 score on metacritic. LBP is a level creator and a physics playground which are the best and basically only features that matters.

Please dont make stupid claims like this , it not only gives this game a worser rep , it also makes people realize you know nothing about games.

Mario> LBP ANYDAY

And your basing this off? Your ass?

Since not only dont you own a ps3, you are just spitting out bull $hit..

And you base the opposite in what? Playing Mario with your TWO imaginary Wiis?

1. Mario is on every single Nintendo system including Virtual Boy so leo-j doesnt need a wii to play.

2. I dont see any opposition in leo-j's post. Just an inquisition

Tsc, tsc, tsc............. Every Nintendo system having a Mario game is irrelevant. You are commenting on a inside joke, your answer is directed to another context.

Leo-j's point view, as his predictions are too biased.

He tried to convince people in this site that he bought a Wii.

He tried twice and twice he admited he was liyng.

I'm mocking te fact he lies and is biased. Did you get it?

There is even a joke about Wii being out of stock because Leo-j keeps buying them.

What? How is it irrelevant? Leo-j could of play Mario on any of the other 10 nintendo systems. He doesn't need a Wii to play it. Yeah.... and your point of view, opinions, and perdictions (which I don't understand how thats an issue in this thread) aren't biased? Sounds to me like kung fu's opinions where biased too since he likes 360 more than ps3... of course opinions will favor the persons console of choice... if they thought the other games where better than they would like that system more... meaning they would be biased towards that system then.... wow... how you don't grasp that is beyond me. point is leo-j thinking lbp is better isnt biased.

I don't see how a thread saying he bought a wii (which led to a banning might I add so I knew what you were referring to) has anything to do with this

That joke sounds extreamly retarded...

Where , in the J mans post, has he even brought up the 360? Maybe if mario was a game on the 360 , then you would have an arguement but as it stands you dont.

The J man is only saying that mario is a  better platformer than lbp because its the truth. No matter how much you opinion differs it still stands.

No, people are accepting the Wii's success, as you look at sales, if you don't accept it, you're a tool.

But LBP is not getting that same kind of love.  And if Uncharted is any indication, people will never admit they were incorrect.  That's what's worrying.

Seriously, you need to follow your own advice. Why the hell are you worried what other people think? You're too emotionally invested if this worries you.

You couldn't even lay off defending the game for an hour LOL. Take a step back, enjoy the game, and let the sales speak for themselves.

The last time he was in the topic, he was talking to me, but then ducked out instead of continuing and decided everything I said would be forgotten by Page 3, so he could then re-enter the thread without addressing me at all.

It's simply the "Missing Dessert Because You Won't Eat Your Crow" syndrome.

Maybe I have a life, and have things to do other than argue on the internet?

Maybe that's it.

It's your thread. I responded to your OP. You challenged my point of view and told me "FAIL". I proved to you I was correct and you were wrong. You disappear for two pages and decide to ignore my last comments to go argue with Manuelf and Fishy. It's not that you have a life other than arguing on the internet. It's that you choose to not finish your arguements once the tide isn't turning in your favor. If I had to ask you to re-enter the thread, I could understand your "having a life" comment. However you voluntarily re-entered to argue with someone else, and I merely explained to Fishy why you cam back so much later in the topic, since he brought it up.

Success is an "analog" term. LBP is definitely successful - just not as much as some people had hoped for.

The ultimate litmus test for the success of any console game is what sort of sustained HARDWARE boost comes from any game - and in this sense, LBP hasn't done particularly well.

In terms of raw software sales, its done pretty well. Not great - but well (esp. compared to other PS3 titles).

Its still early days anyway - lets see how its selling in 3-6 months time.

Oh, so it's my fault that a saying that had nothing to do with sales is being used for sales.

Fail.

I'm sorry. I must have missed the asterik that followed "LBP will be huge" that mentions it was only meant to mean fun factor and not sales figures. My bad. It's not like we're on a sales site where these things could be misconstrued that way.

However, I know enough to give a quick check, and lo and behold, you have used it in a way to describe sales before. I bring you to October 19th. The thread is called "LBP v Wii Music The Creative Wars. It's in the Sales Discussion. Everyone was asked which would sell more. Your answer was...

"LBP is HUGE

Therefore, it will sell more."

Any questions?

I actually made a whole thread about "LBP Will be Huge", which went into great detail as to why it is not there to quantify sales.  It also went into what thread and context it was first used in, and why I kept on saying it.

This thread was at the height of "LBP will be huge" hype, and that was sarcasm to the nth degree.  The Wii series of games have sold astoundingly well.  You'd have to be an idiot to believe LBP would outsell it.  If I said LBP will be huge in every thread, obviously a smart person would take that with a grain of salt, and you can see that no one replied to it, cause it was obviously sarcasm.

It's nice to have my own stalker on this site though.  I look forward to continuing this convo.
