Is vgchartz the main authority in video game sales other than the NPD and other things like that? I've been having trouble figuring out how popular this site is.

PLAYSTATION®3 is the future.....NOW.......B_E_L_I_E_V_E

Consoles owned: Game Cube, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance, Nintendo DS, PSP, PS1, PS2, PS3.

My prediction: NATAL WILL NOT help 360 sales. Maybe a 50-100k boost week 1, then a 30-70 k boost week 2, and back to the norm again after 3-5 weeks.

Well, VGChartz is the only place where you can get this info for free in the amounts VGC provides them.

NPD/ChartTrack/Media Create/etc all deliver numbers based on much more sales data and are therefore statistically more accurate. But VGC has been very close for most of the comparisons with these tracking services. Besides NPD only gives a monthly top 10 + hardware and European data doesn't have any sales at all, just a weekly ranking.

It depends what you are looking for

Wikipedia is actually the main authority on shipment figures

Pretty much each individual country has an equivalent of NPD, and generally these are seen as more accurate and more reliable, but they track on a month by month basis, instead of week by week. And recently VGChartz has started taking larger sampling sizes, and possibly improved their calculating abilities, leading to greater accuracy. We rarely disagree with NPD nowadays

But VGChartz is essentially the only place to find statistics for worldwide sales, and weekly sales, so in some senses we are the main authority, and we have been cited by mainstream media many times, see this thread for a list

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

Wikipedia can by default never be the main authority on anything since it can be adjusted by anyone. The main authority for shipment data is the earnings releases of each company.

lol, I remember that site.

@ BengaBengea - the wikipedia page uses these earnings releases as their references. It's just convenient that it has shipment figures for all consoles on the one page, rather than trawling through Google to find each individually
