Forums - Gaming - 1080p and 60fps games?

Wipe out HD is in NATIVE 1080p at 60fps, if you have a hard time believing that, then Idc..

Well if you don't understand sound logic that's been presented a few times in this thread already, or the fundementals of how much power is required to pull 1080p@60fps, perhaps this link (that was already posted in this thread, had you read through) will debunk a few of those games you listed.

http://insidethedigitalfoundry.blogspot.com/2008/09/wipeout-hds-1080p-sleight-of-hand.html

The very same article mentions that RR7 is actually true 1080p and 60fps, which quite frankly is amazing. I may have jumped the gun saying you won't find that on any console, but to even say "some", let alone "a lot" of games have that kind of performance on consoles is just a joke. I'd wager less than 10 games run TRUE 1080p@consistent 60fps in the current console library for either PS3 or 360.

Hell, make it 5 games.

By life end:

  • Wii- 100 million+
  • Xbox360- 35~40 million
  • PS3- 30 million
  • PSP- 30~32 million ------------- FAILURE
  • NDS- 85~90 million (Skeptical)  - FAILURE
  • NDS- 100 million+ (Optimistic) -- Success!

Ridge Racer 7 runs at 60fps and 1080p on both the 360 and ps3? Thats incredible. (Was rr7 released on the 360?)

N64 is the ONLY console of the fifth generation!!!

wipeout

Ridge racer 7 is ps3 exclusive...

NBA 09, and MLB 09 are 1080p 60fps though..

lmfao, you aren't going to get 60fps at true 1080p on any console. PC is the only platform that can pull that. A lot of 360 and PS3 games struggle with 30fps - with filters off too.

Since the Wii runs at 480 I wouldn't be surprised if there are a ton of 60fps games on that. Nintendo and Sega in particular have always aimed for the 60fps goal in all of their games.

EDIT

NJ5 beat me to it. I should have read ALL the posts first =/. Ah well.

Nice wipe out HD an amazing looking game 60fps and 1080p..

GT5 60fps and 1080p..

NBA 09 60fps 1080p..

MLB O9 60fps 1080p..

there are alot of ps3 titles that are 60fps and 1080p, just none that are multiplatform.

So you're saying that wipeout HD is an amazing looking game, then a couple posts later you say it looks like a wii game?

So many people fooled by the 1280x1080p res the PS3 often outputs. You do realise that this res is used not because it looks good but because of the shortcomings of the PS3, that it doesn't have a hardware scaling chip?

This way people can output 1080i on their PS3.

You seem to be very confused.

EDIT - I got a little confused there to. It is very rare for the PS3 to output 1280x1080, I should have been more realistic and said 1024x1080 or 960x1080.

yeah i just don't feel like spending a grand on my computer to make it good enough to run games like crysis.

Well GT5 is ALMOST Full 1080P, Holy hell quite bitchin

Outside of downloadable titles, 1080p 60fps games are very rare. Like Nintendo, most developers realized that there are more important things than resolution even regarding graphics. Of course, upscaling makes even older titles look nicer, for example Xbox games running under the 360 look nicer than when they run on the Xbox.

On the other hand, there are more 60fps games on the Wii than on PS360. That's a symptom of the polygon-pushing-for-glorious-screenshots syndrome exhibited by PS360 developers. If a PS360 game runs at a stable 30fps without framerate drops, that's already reason to celebrate.

you clearly haven't seen wii ,ps2 or SD Video etc on a HD LCD, even on a small samsung 21' HD or a or full HD tv 32'.

it's a blurry mess, and not all tv have unscaling.

Isnt wipeout supposed to have hit both of those marks? Although, apparently this led to the game being too fast for the human eye to see....

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

All HDTV's can downscale, or else you wouldn't see any picture at all on them.  It's just some do a better job of it than others.

Several Sony fans in here seem to be under the impression that the PS3 has enough hardware power to push 1920x1080@60 frames per second with the very fancy looking games...RR7 and those basketball games etc. didn't use as many effects, shiny stuff, etc - so the devs were able to get an acceptable framerate at that resolution out of the PS3's hardware.

But, take a more up to date game (even an exclusive one, like MGS4), and the hardware capabilities simply aren't there to be able to do it, no matter how much magic coding pixie dust the devs sprinkle on.  I wish that was not the case, but sadly it is...from a hardware standpoint, the PS3 was obsolete a while ago.

If you want 1080p/60fps with up to date games...just build yourself a computer.  It won't cost you very much more than the cost of a PS3 to do so either.
