It works fine, and is better than any other (free) streaming service that I have tried. Mind you, I only use the standard PC account (I don't know if there is extra content if you have a X360), but my biggest gripe is actually the lack of movies (that interest me) to choose from.

That's my wife's gripe too.

I think that will change slowly as more subscribers sign on... it'll just take some time.

Same here.  Streaming to my PC or through my Xbox 360 works great, and is of DVD quality ( again, haven't watched an HD movie yet through Netflix, can't comment on that ).  But my biggest problem was not enough movies on there that I want to watch.  But, over time I've seen the selection grow slowly, to include more and more of what I want to see.

Yeah, I haven't really watched HD content on it either.

My big fear about the service, is that after the holidays and people start using their XBOX 360 christmas present, the Netflix service is going to get bogged down.

I only hope they are prepared for it.

I just signed up for a 48-hour XBL Gold trial plus the free Netflix trial subscription, and I did notice right off the bat that the picture quality was poor for me. My internet connection sucks, though, so I usually get one or two bars.

I'm still keeping the XBL Gold+Netflix; high fidelity isn't of utmost importance when I mainly watch things like The Jack Benny Show.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the video quality that is streamed to your XBOX is dependent upon what your connection speed is.  Faster connections get higher video quality.

I finally signed up for a free trial this evening an tried a few films.  I tried ones that are available on blu-ray so I know the source is available in HD.  What I got was clean in terms of framerate, but it is "foggy" as it is enlarged quite a bit.  The "source" is a small screen and when letterbox is chosen, it gets pretty blurry.  I've got a 6Mbit connection and get 4 bars and no stuttering.

I found a blog that described the delivery process and it isn't exactly impressive.  Hopefully they'll improve on it with time.  Granted, it seems better than SD television, but still not what I had hoped.

  1. You're basing what the quality should be based on if the film is actually on BluRay or not, what they actually offer?
  2. Enlarging to your screen doesn't matter
  3. I watch mine in 720p on 40" TV and they look absolutely fine and not foggy (except for the older movies that are foggy)

This is the biggest problem with the service.  The library is terrible.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

Yeah other than the library I have no problems with the service. I'm waiting until February to see if the selection gets better. If it doesn't I'm cancelling my subscription.

I don't think it will be resolved by Feb.  The way in which the movie industry licenses content will need to be significantly overhauled before these services will be content competitive.

yea, If I was only using netflix for the streaming, I would have cancelled my subscription a long long time ago. The only reason I have netflix, is because it is a cheaper and faster service than Blockbuster offers. Unlimited DVD/Blu-ray 2 at a time with unlimited streaming for 15.99 can't be beat.
