Forums - Sales Discussion - Cheaper blu-ray players cutting into PS3 sales?

Sony has never made a secret of the fact that they saw the PS3 as a Blu-Ray player that happens to play games, rather than a game console that also plays Blu-Ray. This is great for pushing lock-in formats, but it's not so good for maintaining a viable gaming platform. If cheaper Blu-Ray players are really cutting into the PS3's sales, then it would seem the market agrees with Sony's viewpoint, and that does not bode well for the PS3 at all.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

You do know that that does slow down PS3 sales right?

This is what i've saying. If Sony loses the Blu sales because stand alones are more affordable its going to mess things up for the gaming system. They already screwed up the installed base, so what more could happen now?

Why is Sony always trying to force their proprietary technology down people's throat and expect gamer to pay a premium for them. With the UMD and now looking more and more likely the Blu Ray (not the format, format is great) drive looking to cost Sony the War.

I don't get them sometime.
