Forums - Gaming - Metroid Prime Box Set

I was reading through this interview and the last question struck me as a fantastic idea.

Q: If Nintendo came to you and said, "We really liked the Prime series, and we want to a boxed set of all three games, but we'd need you to adapt the first two games to the Wii-mote." How long would it take to adapt those old games to the Wii-mote?

A: Oh, you're talking about code that's six, seven years old, so I can't answer that without diving into it.

Though for the Tokyo Game Show, a couple years ago, we did take Metroid Prime 2 code and adapt it to the Wii controller, and that took a couple months. But to really do it right, and really incorporate all the features of MP1 and MP2, it would take a while. It's just hard to really answer that without diving into it.

It's a great idea, though.

I don't know if any of you have seen this before but I can honestly say that already owning both currently released Prime games I would buy the box set if they did it this way.  I think it would be a lot of fun to replay the old versions with the new controls, and if they wanted to really make it worthwhile they could actually revamp some of the bosses, puzzles, and secrets a bit to keep you on your toes.

PS - Its an interesting interview if you haven't seen it yet.

But, unlike RE4 where the controls really made a huge difference, would this be the same for MP1/2? I know I wouldn't re-buy them.

I think it's only a matter of time before we see Prime 1 and 2 Wiimakes.

Superchunk - Judging by what critics are saying about what they've played so far, the new controls would make a huge difference.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

I would probably pay as much as $70 for the box set with revamped controls, but if they redid puzzles, bosses, etc I'd pay a bit more.

Also, why don't you think the controls will make a huge difference? Look at Prime 1, there were tons of control problems to the game, samus was sluggish, aiming was difficult at best and you had to be stationary to manually aim.  There are massive improvements that could be made.

I think it would be fine, later on. They wouldn't have to do total Wii controls. I think the hard core would be happier if you left the first two the same and added Classic Controller support.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

If they are already going to be modifying controls there is no reason they can't add classic and gamecube control support to MP3 as well as adding Mote-Chuk and Classic support to MP 1 & 2. Then everyone is happy!

If its a bundle with MP3 at no extra charge, that be pretty cool.

You're joking right? The controls were PERFECT. Prime wasin't a shooter, and was never meant to be a shooter thus the controls weren't adapted for shooters. I for one LOVED that control scheme. Lock-On as a very interesting edition which made Prime even more reminiscent of it's 2D predecessors.

And how was Samus sluggish? They successfully incorporated platform jumping in first person view... something that was never done right before. WTH are you talkin about?!

Metroid Prime 3 Hype Level: Corrupted

Reviews:

1UP - 9.0

IGN - 9.5

It is a hardcore game through and through. You will get your ass kicked by bosses. You will be stumped by the sometimes complex, but never overbearing, exploration.
"You'll never want to play any shooter with dual analog sticks ever again - it's THAT good.". - Gametrailers

There's no reasonable way they could map the GC games to Wiimote controls without a considerable cost. It worked in RE4 because the analog stick was acting as a cursor reticle, a perfect swap with the Wiimote was easy.

Mapping MP3 controls (analog stick for moving and strafing, Wiimote for aiming) in place of the original Primes (analog stick for moving and looking, holding R for vertical looking)...very hard to do I'm sure...doubt they'll do it.

Just play the GC game on your Wii, that's what BC is for...

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

I never said there was a problem with the lock on. It was one of the best features.

Samus was very sluggish in that game, and I am far from the first person to mention it. I will agree that it wasn't noticeable once you got into the game, but at the start it was very noticeable. Camera controls became an issue at a few points in the game and aiming extreme up and extreme down were problems especially when you had to stop and stand still to be able to adjust your angle, luckily you could hold down the left shoulder to hold the view as you moved but if you let go it snapped back to default.

I love MP, but its controls were far from perfect. I actually just got done playing it again recently in preparation for MP3. They incorporated a lot of awesome mechanics in the game and it was and still is a great game to this day.  But there is no way you can convince me that the controls were perfect.
