Forums - Sales - Will PS3 eventually pass 360?

yeah now that i actually saw that guys calculations summer 08 might be too fast. I think the best games coming is arguable though, Killzone Lair Warhawk MGS4 Little Big Planet and Final Fantasy...other than Halo and Gears of War 2, what titles are on the same level as those? Game quality might drive the 360 a bit longer, but everyone knows its a matter of time before the ps3 will catch up (and pass IMO) in graphics. Why buy a system taht will be equal at best without an HD player/ upconverter to save $100? Thats not even two games...
You either would have to rich enough to have both, or impatient enough not to wait for games.

Ignorance is not a reason to claim there are no games coming out for a console. You have only 2 titles from the PS3 that are guarenteed to sell consoles. The others are up in the air. I can easily list a bunch of upcoming new IPs for the 360 that could do very well but I won't bother since you obviously don't care enough to be informed.

To cash in my CC rewards points for $300 in Circuit City gift cards to purchase a 360 or not: That is the question.

"First welcome to VGchartz...

Then to  the 10 years with blu-ray being the dominant format. I guess you mean that it will stay long if blu-ray wins. The only problem I have with that idea is that PS2 (which is on its seventh year I think and still going strong in USA is most probarbly not sold as a DVD-player today. If blu-ray wins now, we will have massmarket priced blu-ray players from Sony, Samsung etc and the usual "cheap" brands that all will be cheaper than a PS3. "

Thats true they probably will mass market the players, but by then the PS3's cost will decrease for just that reason. If blu-ray becomes mass marketed, creating the laser diodes (spelling?, lol) will be as cheap as making the DVD lasers. Then, they will be able to cut the price of the PS3 substantially, possible to 300's or even 200's. Sony gets paid for EVERY blu-ray disc made, where or not they make them themselves. If it did win next gen, imagine every dvd made today, but sony gets a piece of every one. I dont see that happening in ten years of course, but if blu-ray wins, the PS3 will drop substantially in price, and will be the perfect supplement to any HDTV, with the ability to play games, shop, search the web, act as a DVR, and watch next gen movies. The PS2 was a gaming system that could play dvd's, but the PS3 is much more, and the price will end up being 100 more in 6-7 years IMO.

Noticed that a lot of people al ready have answered about the games so I wont bother, but Halo Wars comes to my mind. FF will probarbly not hit USA before 2009.

Because of that it has more games already know? Of course I still think PS3 will outsell 360 in the long run, not just during 2008.

Umm i stopped reading when you said xbox had the least diverse game not having any jrpgs......

considering that at the moment xbox has more jrpgs then ps i dont know what your talking about. As for saying that games wont push sales then we could say that about every single person who says ff etc will push sony.

As for ps3 being 300 thats possible if sony wants to lose even more money on the ps3, they are losing huge ammounts and unless they can really decrease production costs it would cost a fortune to drop it this low.

I can see the possiblility of it being that low but it all depends on cost of production and if blue ray wins the HD format (its winning right now ) =)

1) If you'll read more carefully, I said that it doesn't have any prominent JRPGs. Eternal Sonata and Blue Dragon have been rather dissapointing, and the PS3 is still outselling the 360 in Japan despite them.

2) The high price of the PS3 at launch was because Sony knew that several of the PS3's components would decrease in price almost immediately, and they have. Blu-Ray diodes alone are more than $100 cheaper to manufacture than they were at launch, they've removed the Emotion Engine, and the Cell processor will become cheaper to manufacture once they move to a 65nm process. This is why the 60GB model is being phased out(80GB HD's are also cheaper to buy in bulk). There can easily be a $299 PS3 by next Christmas, Sony just didn't think they'd have to do so until much later.

Thats if they dont want to break even. Sony right now was loosing what 300 a playstation sold that was at 600 so if it is 100 less now they are 200 in the hole for each playstation. Now if they want to bring it down to 300 and break even they would have to decrease production costs by 300 to 400 dollars...now thats expensive. So it really matters if they want to break even or want to stay in the hole

BTW blue dragon and eternal sonota both got awards and high review rankings in japan, while it didnt boost 360 sales in japan as much as they hoped we cant know thats its not good till both come out here in US

That and Lost odyssey looks very promising

With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

Game trailers-Halo 3 only dissapointed the people who wanted to be dissapointed.

Bet with Harvey Birdman that Lost Odyssey will sell more then Blue dragon did.

Still a standalone blu-ray player will be cheaper or better at that time AND xbox720 (or whatever) AND Nintendo X HD (or whatever) will al ready be released. I have a hard time seeing PS3 staying in the market if Microsoft or Nintendo and various other manufactorers is forcing Sonys hand. PS1 and PS2 has a big advantage against PS3 they ended in a clear lead, as it is now PS3 has a hard time outselling the PS2. Even if we state that PS3 will beat xbox360 I at least have problem seeing it reach Wii numbers for quit some time.

Of course sure PS3 might stay have its ten years plan but I don't belive for a moment that it will sell then as a blu-ray or multimedia box. It will at that time be a true game machine.

As it is now Apple might force the hand for Sony it Apple get the apple TV going.

Personally I think that PS3 will pass 360 by the end of October 2007. The price drop for xbox will actually decrease their salse to like 5k WW, it turns out no one is going to buy Halo 3 and then by the end of august sony will start selling a 120 gig PS3 for $800 and discontinue the 80 gig PS3. Then they will drop the price of the 120 gig model to $700 and sony fanboys will cheer as sony has given them 2 price cuts in one year and finally sony will release a new sku with a 80 gig PS3 and a nintendo wii for $1000 early in october so that the sony fans have something to play which is fun while waiting for their AAA games that will all end up being delayed until 2011 because 3rd party developers can't figure out the cell processor.

But thats just what I think.

O.o @ Rugger

ps3 doesnt stand a chance to pass the 360 this year.. maybe a year from now.. since GTA will sell more ps3's next year instead of 360's and with MGS4 and killzone all coming out relativley close together at the moment

Why? Wouldn't the extra material that now should appear almost at the same time as the launch give 360 an edge?
