Forums - Nintendo - It's time for third parties to make Wii their lead platform

Software developers always benefit of a unified hardware target, which is almost what we had last gen ( it wasn't that hard to make games run on all 3 consoles).
By introducing hardware with specs rather radically different from the other consoles Nintendo broke that and as a result they are affecting software companies.

So Nintendo is actually partly responsible for the current situation.

But isn't the problem that they're losing money because of HD development costs, rather than the Wiis?

Spread the costs over twice as many consumers, and it starts to change the outlook of the industry.

Tease.

I think that if the third-parties shifted their main work to the Wii, then it would be the beginning of the second great games crash because people that enjoy the hd games in all their glory won't suddenly shift to a console that can't produce those types of games that well.

Sure, Nintendo has gotten some excellent sales on some titles, but the sales for Wii Sports can be explained by saying it has only sold so many copies because it is packaged with the Wii. Wii Fit has sold as much as it has because of the ringing endorsements it has received from non gamer sources and from pr generated for the game because of youtube videos featuring skimpily clad young women using it.

But Nintendo hasn't really shown that they can make new games that will appeal to all gamers and games like Mario Galaxy and Zelda: Twilight Princess really haven't attracted many purchases from Nintendo's "New casual group of gamers." Not everyone that has Wii Sports has opted to get the best game on the system which is Mario Galaxy.

Heavens to Murgatoids.

BTF: So almost 8 million for both SSBB and SMG, almost 12 million for MKWii, 5 million for TP are not enough...

Where's the World heading to?

That only applies in a fantasy land where fanboys are actually a major consumer block. You're just a vocal minority, but are hurting the industry more than you think Nintendo is, by demanding companies spend more money than they can make with those games.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

I don't think third parties ever will. 360 brought in more dough for third parties than PS3 and Wii combined this gen so far.

Well that isn't hard. PS3, smaller audience to sell too. Wii, less third party games and core players.

According to him, doom. But, 30 years ago, we were supposedly heading towards the next Ice Age. DAMN YOU GLOBAL WARMING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why Third Parties won't embrace the wii:

So..the only one's fault of bad 3d party support on the wii is from *gasp* the 3d parties?! It makes so much sense. In the end, it will be their loss.

I tell you this - it won't happen. Think about how many really system-selling games you have. Folks see the popularity of the Wii, but look at the game sales for it. Their best bet for this gen is the saturation factor - and the attach rate. I know at least 10 folks who bought Wiis and WiiPlay and have yet to buy any other games. Ninny did an awesome thing with WiiSports - and giving a game away with WiiPlay. They made games that are free and you don't really need to buy another game. Sure, WiiFit is hot, but for every hit, you have mountains of shovelware, and titles that hit the bargain bin way too quick.

There is little to no shovelware on the PS3 and 360 - and they are a much, much safer bet than releasing a hardcore game to a very casual audience.

This won't happen.

By this reasoning, the Gamecube should have been first last gen, and the PS2 last.

Also, while you may be right about the relative lack of "shovelware," there are still plenty of "mediocre" and "crappy" games on those two consoles (as with all consoles). This applies equally to the Wii.

I'm not saying your answer is wrong, per se, just that your reasoning is flawed.

"There is little to no shovelware on the PS3 and 360"

you gotta be kidding me...
