Forums - Sales - PS3 sales fall 40% this week, things returning to normal?

Well ,the issue is if the sales ground for the PS3 will raise its bar .Some games as Ninja Gaiden ,My Summer Holiday 3 ,Folksouls etc didnt move nearly any hardware but them appearing has slowly lifted the sales ground of the PS3 from 8500 to 13000 .If Hot Shots Golf can continue this trend and stabilize the sales of the system above the 13K level then it will have done its job .This game strenghtens the PS3 games library for the japanese point of view and can add its share stabilizing its sales. It would have been a lot clearer if the console kept selling 40K for some weeks and the game sold 500K in a month ,but it just wont happen like that .Still ,it can do its job .

As for new games coming there isnt a very big gun in the horizon right now but we dont know the japanese release dates to tell the truth .In any case ,even without the big guns it will have a much more steady flow of software compared to the deadly march-june period with nearly no game released .Games like Blue 24, Bladestorm ,Eye of Judgement ,Imabikisou ,Oblivion (if it sold 43K in 360 it could do 120K in PS3 first week ) , Fatal Inertia ,Tears to Tiara ,Record of Agarest War ,Rise to Lair ,Heavenly Sword and some others are coming to Japan in the next 30-40 days and that should keep helping the sales.Theres also Dynasty Warriors 6 and Devil May Cry 4 that should both appear before christmas ,and those are big games in Japan, and Ratchet and Clank wich isnt massive in Japan but its a great game and will probably move some units .We dont know either if White Knight Story will appear soon ,etc .

There arent any major titles coming for the PS3?

Titles that the Japanese will love:

- Eye of Judgment - Oct. 25, 2007
- Gran Turismo 5: Prologue - Oct. 2007
- Railfan Taiwan Koutetsu - Fall 2007
- Devil May Cry 4 - Dec. 2007
- Dynasty Warriors 6

IGN's semi-outdated list: http://ps3.ign.com/index/release.html?constraint.eq.game.locale=ja

Theres plenty more there that will probably sell on that list. I just don't know which ones are going to be big or not out of the rest.

There are major games before Christmas for Japan specifically.

Baldestorm, Samurai Warriors 6, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, White Knight Story (if it's released this year).

That Musou games will give the PS3 a nice boost in Japan, Bladestorm should give some boost too.

GT and WKS should help as well, especially if GT 5 Pr is coming in both downloadable and retail form then it should definitely help.

Yo wouldnt heavenly sword boost sales? Also, last week they were at 110k now they are at 95k WW, its still selling good, just like the wii 4 weeks dropping still selling over 200k.

Sadly, Heavenly Sword won't sell much in Japan but a much crappier game of the same genre (anything with the word musou in it) will.

Don't ask me why. Just look at God of War sales in Japan compared to Musou sales.

We all knew this was comming, its not that big a deal really.

@Optimist by and large. (Inspired by Diomedes response)

With Sony still announcing titles that were acquired well before the PS3's launch, its questionable as to how steady game flow will be in the future, especially with games taking so long to develop.

Also, We've seen time and time again, unproven games aren't enough to move more PS3s, only pre-existing successful franchises will move more PS3's. Keeping this in mind I think we should be far more careful in our optimism towards the idea that these new exciting games will somehow make the PS3's situation any better. PS3 has some great games comming out, however their appeal is for the most part focused on a single demographic that the 360 is already tapping. And even then the bulk of these titles, like previously mentioned, are new unproven IPs that can easily be ignored by anyone not already drawn towards the alure of the PS3. Sony's best bet is its solids investments, its Metal Gear Solids, Final Fantasies, God of Wars, Monster Hunters, Ratchet & Clanks and Everyone's Sports.

Too many third party titles are being shared with the 360 to make them a notable factor so I think we should hold our optimism for the above said franchises more than anything. It's counter productive for individuals to keep making wide eyed predictions for each and every single PS3 exclusive that comes out regardless its chances and only further stigmatizes the Sony fan image as being a fanbase blind to reality. Simply wanting a game to sell good isn't enough reason to say it will. If you don't reserve excitement and hype for where it is due, you'll end up looking like a fool, and believe it or not that affects the credibility of more than just yourself.

Also, since there is no evidence or garantee of future price cuts for the PS3 anytime soon, it might benefit those using that possibility as a source of optimism to be a little more reserved as relying on that hope could easily backfire on them in much the same manner.

Man Leo, you really do live in your own little world.

Is it just me, or has the Playstation 3 been selling faster lately? I haven't noticed any fall back. It still seems to be selling a bit better than before.

By the way, how could "Everybody Loves Golf," a single, golf game, boost the sales of the Playstation 3? That's like a hockey game, or a movie game, like "Shrek the Third," boosting the sales of the Playstation 3. I mean, if a single golf game could do that, than every game could do that, and if every game could do that, than the Playstation 3 would be doing a lot better now. What's so special about "Everybody Loves Golf?" No, not everyone loves golf. It's just a typical sports game. And how is it any better than any other golf game?

Minna no Golf for the Japanese is like Madden for the US. It's a huge franchise over there.

Seriously, I didn't hear anything productive from your post.
