Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Rumors: All new Xbox 360s models to include HDMI, new 65nm in late Aug/Sept

If there is indeed a new revision of the Xbox 360s that include HDMI and 65nm chips coming near the end of August I wonder if this will have an even bigger impact on sales than the price cut?  It seems like many people are on the fence until the new cooler chips/board revision comes out and it's unlikely that a $50 pricecut would get them off the fence.

Rumor: All Xbox 360 models will include HDMI
by Christopher Grant Aug 8th 2007 11:45AM

Though Ars Technica is quick to label this a rumor, what they heard from an "inside source" sounds awfully similar to what Engadget's otherwise reliable tipster told them last March, though a bit more specific. Ars says, "a new version of the Core and Premium [Xbox 360] hardware in late August or September ... will include an HDMI port." Microsoft has never said that the Elite would be alone in having an HDMI port – in fact, the Halo 3-themed Xbox 360 will come packed with an HDMI port this September though, notably, no HDMI cable.

Of course, it's presumed that this hardware revision would also include the 65nm chips we've all been waiting for, as well as quieter DVD drives (quieter than the BenQ VAD6038?). But how will prospective purchasers discern which retail box includes the new hardware? There will apparently be a small "call out" on the packaging so savvy buyers can take their pick and casual shoppers can drain the existing inventory. C'est la vie.

Just a related thought, here is the bestsellers list on Amazon that factors in the 360 price drop.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/videogames/ref=pd_dp_ts_vg_1/104-4888819-1939932

360 Premium jumped up to 11 and the Elite jumped up to 13. That is a lot higher than they were. PS3 and Wii are both still higher, at 4 and 2 respectively.

If this revision takes place, it should help sales even more. Hell, I might pick one up once the price is below $300 or so for a Premium once the hardware is fixed.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Yeah but the price cut was just announced this week it'll likely take a week or two to see how it plays out, plus Amazon is not really an accurate way to judge total sales. I suspect that starting in 2 weeks the 360 will outsell the PS3 in North America on a week by week basis until at least Feb 2008...

So does this mean the Halo Edition 360 won't have the new chip?

The 360 Premium has climbed to #7 and the Elite to #12 since you made your post.  I wonder where on the list the 360 would be if it went by their combined sales.  Also 2 360 games are near the top of the list as well which should be interesting.  Of course all this is only for Amazon so it should be taken with a grain of salt.
