Forums - Nintendo - What the heck? Animal Crossing advertisements

Okay... So I've seen a lot of AC ads lately. I have to say, they seem to be moronic. Nothing at all happens in the ad! Nothing! They talk about T-shirts for the most of the time, and it lasts for over 20 seconds! It is being more advertised than Mario Kart was, and THIS is the ad?

Anyway, I couldn't find the exact ad (probably Norway exclusive, it isn't dubbed, but in Norwegian), but this is another one. The Norwegian one is far worse though.

Okay, but aside from the fact that I hate the appeal of the ad.

I wonder - is AC being advertised as a womens' franchise? Has any game ever been advertised as that? As far as I know - no. That's pretty interesting. You would think that the first game that was advertised like that would be a DS game. Also, I believe that the Sims (original) had almost 25% women (that was said as if it was a lot, and it probably was), but I can't find the article.

Anyway, what do you think of the advertisement? And please, refrain (spelling?) from just bashing the commercial. Some bashing is fine, but try to look at why Nintendo made it like this too.

That is VGChartz LONGEST review. And it's NOT Cute Kitten DS

I've seen 'em. A lot, too. Here they're in Dutch. Really, I haven't seen as much advertising for a game in a long while. And yes, it does seem to be marketed as a women's franchise. All the hardcore already know about the game, so Nintendo don't have to attract them. It's the new gamers, the casuals they want. As a matter of fact, when AC Wild World came out for the DS the commercials for that game were the same, women women women. Well and it does seem like a game that would appeal a lot to women. Moreso than a lot of other casual Wii titles.
I think the campaign does an alright job of explaining in easy-to understand terms what the game's all about, though seeing as how often those commercials are aired, they should've done more different ones. I've seen only like 2 or maybe 3 different ones.

Also, yes, you spelled "refrain" correctly. ;)

seems to be more of a ad for Wii speak then AC

BTW if Wii speak is just like that then wow that's pretty good.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

The ad has put me off the game. It does look like it is a "girlie" game. Can someone tell me what sort of game it is?

I agree with Imthelegend, ie I've been put off by the ads whereas before I would have probably given the game a try (kind of like WiiPlay where I'd buy Wii Speak and hey, at least try the game).

Here in Belgium and France, it's also all about appealling to women apparently (I'm taliking about the AC ad of course).

It seems this commercial still base on Blue Ocean strategy.By trying to make more ppl to play and buy this game.(and Wii too.)

Relax ,friendly and communicating are what i saw in this one.

Btw, reason for using actresses because they want this commercail to be easily noticed by all gender  too.(or You wanna see 2 males have a sweet chat via AC?Ewwwww~)

They didn't use male talking with female because this game rate(E for everyone).I think some family wouldn't be please if a guy can use AC to get close to their daughter.

The Ads in the Uk are appealing to younger people, and casual gamers (which is not bad i reckon, hardcore NInty fans are aware of Ac and if they like it they would get it), which i think is a right move, it also shows the Wii Speak and a social side of this game.
