Wow i didnt expect this in July lol...

People underestimated how determined Microsoft was to keep their vision. Microsoft has a series of goals and they knew the steps they need to take to reach them so they keep their vision focused and simply modify it as needed. Personally I doubt we'd be having this discussion is Microsoft hadn't f'ed up with the hardware... this price cut would have happened last year or at worse earlier this year. The effects would have been much more wide spread and instead of the paltry lead for the year they will have they would have likely done a couple million more... not to mention the hurting they took on their reputation that allowed Sony to kind of slip back into the hearts of gamers after they totally acted like asses leading up to the release of the PS3. I think every PSN user owes Microsoft a thank you as well... if it wasn't for Live you wouldn't be playing online the same way...

With America numbers for the week to follow expect the gap to widen further. So PS3 beats XBox 360 in Japan region for the week. 30k to 10k for the week changes nothing.
X360 wins the two main regions (Americas and Others) comprehensively over PS3 for the week.

ps3 outsold 360 last year didnt it? on vgchartz it didnt but everyone way saying it really did.

Dispite this I think Sony shouldn't decrease it's price point... the numbers it's putting up only look bad compaired to it's competitors, but they are still decent. They need to focus on getting back to profitability as quickly as possible so they are in a strong possition for their next console that will likely utilise the same hardware as their current system. If they can get the cost of Cell and BR drives down they will have a significant advantage compaired to what they had comming into this generation. I think they should focus less on beating Microsoft and more on getting to around 40 million by 2012 when the next series of console should be launching. Cut the price when they make significant hardware changes that reduce cost and not before. They are a viable platform and I don't think that will change.
