I guess when being put side by side with PS3 3rd party sales figures, it makes a clear statement about where the money is.

2 Ubisoft Games (222,203 units sold)
1 Vivendi Game (133,695 units sold)
1 Namco Game (120,000 units sold)

Comparison of 3rd party games that came out on both systems:

Madden NFL 07- 412,762 (PS3) > 386,601 (Wii)
Tiger Woods PGA 07- 335,017 (Wii) > 180, 072 (PS3)
Call of Duty 3- 322,191 (Wii) > 278,291 (PS3)
Marvel: Ultimate Alliance- 248,504 (Wii) > 200,000 (PS3)
Spiderman: The Movie 3- 200,298 (PS3) > 188,792 (Wii)
Need for Speed: Carbon- 256,701 (PS3) > 144,938 (Wii)

Godfather- 92,401 (PS3) > 50,000 (Wii)

2 Games that aren't actually the same, but are different releases for the same franchise (PS3 versions are ports)

Sonic- 287,020 (Wii) > 130,000 (PS3)
Tony Hawk- 141,170 (Wii) > 130,000 (PS3)

As you can see out of the 3 biggest 3rd party publishers, this is the breakdown:

Activision has sold more units on the Wii, but it also had 1 more game released on it compared to the PS3 (by about 210,000 units)

EA has sold more units on the PS3, but it had one more game released on it compared to the Wii (by about 270,000 units)

Ubisoft did much better on the Wii with Red Steal and Rabbids compared to how it did on the PS3 with two ports (R6: Vegas and Blazing Angels).

So in conclusion, the difference between how well 3rd parties are doing on the PS3 and how they are doing on the Wii isn't that big, especially considering the Wii has more than double the userbase of the PS3 in North America, yet some games sold better on the PS3 than on the Wii.

Good math, Ck. How did you easily pull up the sales tallies for all of those games? I can't seem to find a way to order them in that fashion on VGChartz.

There has to be an easier way than that. You have to mouse click every game? And there is no way to organize them from best to worst selling, as far as I can tell.

Most I found in the weekly charts, check the lower numbers for a lot of games, or go back to previous weeks' lower positions.

Some I went to the Games Database, thouse are the very rounded figures.

@Superchunk:

Most PS3 3rd party games are multiplatform, and worse a lot of them came later than the 360 version cause the 360 was out earlier so the PS3's sales have reasons for bein this low too, not just the Wii getting low quality stuff...

Although EA specifically blamed the PS3 for their poor profits, because they invested much more heavily in to the PS3, and Ubisoft's last quarterly report showed profits up 40 percent for the same time last year.

It depends on what barometer is used, frankly. Is EA selling better on the PS3? Yes, in terms of raw games sales. But they also have one more game out, and each of those games appears to have cost considerably more to make.

Relevant quotation: "[John Riccitello, EA CEO] admitted that EA was on the “wrong horse” by concentrating mainly on the PS3 and Xbox 360 while throwing less resources towards the Wii during the console transition."

Relevant quotation: " In other words, the cashed-up rich guy [EA] went to the races, bet the farm on the PS3, and some loose change on the Wii. And lost a lotta cash."

One can say that EA is performing better on the PS3 than on the Wii, and again, in terms of raw sales figures, that's true. In terms of both expectations and profit margins, that's quite false.

As a simple and extreme example to illustrate my point, what if EA took the time to develop a Halo 3 type game (in terms of development and research costs) and a Trauma Center style game for the Wii, and the Halo 3 style game only outsold the Trauma Center style by two hundred thousand copies? Obviously, that's either a triumph for Trauma Center, a failure for Halo 3, or both. Similarly, it's apparent that EA expected more from their PS3 titles than they have received, and their operating margins are at an all time low.

This is from another post of mine, it is a list of third party game sales in North America of some of the highest profile Wii games. Most of the games have done fairly well and with European or Japaneese sales probably made the publishers very happy ...

Exactly Squrriel! If thrid parties/Nintendo werent happy with the Wii we would be getting these titles as well:

Metroid Prime 3
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Smash Bros. Brawl [ONLINE]
No More Heores
Dewy's Adventure
Zack & Wiki
Mario Strikers Charged [ONLINE]
FIFA 08 [exclusive Wii content/ONLINE]
Madden 08 [exculsive Wii content/ONLINE]
MySims
Trauma Centre: New Blood
Brothers In Arms Double Time
Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles
Soul Calibur Legends
Medal Of Honour [40 player ONLINE!!]
NitroBike [ONLINE]
Rayman Raving Rabbids 2
Boogie
Mario & Sonic @ The Olympics
Battilion Wars 2 [ONLINE :D]

That's one hell of a list if you ask me and every Wii owner should be proud of his little white box. Whoever sais the Wii is just for the casuals/soccer-moms is giving proof of his own stupidness.

Note: I only listed the exclusives that should sell a few K... The are much more exclusives coming out, but these are the ones to care about. Also these are ALL releasing between now and Xmas except for MSC which has already been released.

Reviews:

1UP - 9.0

IGN - 9.5

It is a hardcore game through and through. You will get your ass kicked by bosses. You will be stumped by the sometimes complex, but never overbearing, exploration.

I was about to say this, save for VF5 (which will be better on the 360 due to Online anyways), I can't think of a major 3rd party title that's not 1) A port or 2) The weaker version of the game. Now if 3rd games that are being made primarily for the PS3 like UT3, Haze and Tekken 6 or even big Titles like Rock Band, GH3 (actually need to see the price and packaging option for those 2 first), COD4 and Madden don't sell relatively well on the PS3, then Sony has a problem. As it stands right now, the 3rd party PS3 titles are selling well for what they are.

Thanks for the numbers by the way ckmlb
