Forums - Gaming - 360 price cut finally official

@stof,

A big help? Yes, you might be the only one....

I think it will help, but I am not convinced it is going to do wonders or anything. The same will be true if/when the Wii finally gets a price cut.

When I look at who the Wii/360 targets I think their current prices are in the appropriate ranges (albeit on the higher end). I think the reason the PS3 cut provided large movement was the fact that it really was overpriced for its target audience. You can argue the value all day long, but everybody has a price point they simply will not cross. I think this $50 price cut crosses that point for a lot less people than the PS3 did.

How much is this going to delay the Wii overtaking 360 WW... might hit August 19th now, depends on hardware shipments. It's going to be close between 12th and 19th.

Actually only half of the week is going to have the price cut so it is still possible for the 12th but it could be a toss up now.

I agree that this is the worst price cut ever, but every little bit helps me afford it sooner.

The price cuts over the 3 models is a farce.

The 360 has been on the market for 20 months without a price cut and now they are cutting the price by a paltry $50 on the premium, $30 on the Elite and only $20 for the Core. It's a bit of a joke to be honest.

I would have thought a more realistic price cut would have been $50 minimum for the Core bringing it down to $249, on a par with the Wii. $70-$100 for the Premium with $299-$329 being a better price bracket for the Premium and a whole $80 for the Elite bringing it down to $399.

They will get more sales because of the price cut, but not much more and it certainly IMHO will not have the same results that we have just seen with the PS3.

What happens WHEN Nintendo reduce the price of the Wii. I know that this won't happen anytime soon, but I wouldn't be surprised if they reduced the Wii to $199 by early 2008 at the latest.

I expect Halo 3 to be the catalyst for more sales of the 360, not this paltry reduction. Also, MS have missed a huge opportunity, big time. They should have waited until just before Halo was coming out or just after, then reduce the different 360's by decent amounts....this could have seriously damaged the PS3 sales and even had a little bite of the Wii sales.

But what they have done...is slightly narrow the gap between Wii and 360 sales for a short while, then the Wii will take off again and overtake the 360 and will be easily 3m+ more WW sales by the end of the year.

It's either a case of too little too late or not being serious enough.

Prediction (June 12th 2017)

Permanent pricedrop for both PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro in October.

PS4 Slim $249 (October 2017)

PS4 Pro $349 (October 2017)

Okay I remember when everyone was bullying PS3 fans with "fake price cut". Now it is time for MS "price cut" among all models. What will come next? Could Nintendo do even worse? keep the price at $250 until 2011, a Wii bundle with Farcry, a $5 price cut.
Yes, I am just posting useless info.

so by how much x360 sales now will increase in usa? =)
will they ? =))
who will buy failing x360 even with price cut? only fans or also uninformed people? =)

Every 5 seconds on earth one child dies from hunger...

2009.04.30 - PS3 will OUTSELL x360 atleast by the middle of 2010. Japan+Europe > NA.

Gran Turismo 3 - 1,06 mln. in 3 weeks with around 4 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.

Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.

1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.
PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.

PS3 may reach 5 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 50k.
PS2 2001 vs PS3 2008 sales numbers =) + New games released in Japan by 2009 that passed 100k so far

In all fairness, how is this any worse than Sony cutting the price of the 60gb then releasing a new SKu at the former price essentially duplicating the original SKU scenario for when the console was launched except now one of them doesn't have reverse compatibility.

If I had to give MS any credit, I would suspect this price cut being little more than a maneuver to deflate any speculation that they were planning a larger price cut after Halo3's launch. This would be advantageous as if Sony felt MS might drop a bombshell just before Christmas they themselves might push for another price cut to one up the box. This way, MS gives the illusion they're only willing to put one foot forward (not serious enough to force the competition to consider another price cut but just enough to convince them this is all MS is willing to do) when in fact they could be easily poised to make a greater price cut before the holidays not giving the fooled competition enough time to counter. But this may be giving them too much credit.

Yeah, not that great a deal though. Surprised there isn't much MS love here though. Also, while the 360 was known for its problems from the start, I would wait until the PS3 has been out as long as the 360 had been before the "red ring of death" epidemic before declairing a victory for console quality.

Will we see a price cut in EU and Japan also?

It could happend in EU when the Elite launches 24. August.

But when I look at the current prices here in Denmark, I'm not sure we will get a pricecut.

($ divide by 5.3862 / € divide by 7.4426)

Xbox 360 core: 2100-2300 kr (~ $390-$430 ~ €280-€310)

Wii: 2200-2500 kr. (~ $410-$465 ~ €295-€335)

Xbox 360 pre: 2700-3200 kr. (~ $500-$595 ~ €360-€430)

PS3 60Gb: 4400-4900 kr. (~ $815-$910 ~ €590-€660)

PS3 60Gb beginner pack: 4999 kr (~ $930 ~ €670)

So the 360 core is already a little cheaper than the Wii here, and the premium is a lot cheaper than the PS3.

*fixed € $ error...

I think you got dollars and euros mixed. €280-€310 converts to around $390-$430, so actually consoles much more expensive in EU than you said. I think there should be price cut in EU also and perhaps in Japan too..
