Forums - Sony Discussion - Home - Biggest ever Playstation software cash cow?

So it finally releases tomorrow and it is pretty good, the Beta was fun but nothing to get very excited about. Of course Home is not for gamers (I know you want to believe it is but it's not) but is simply a cashcow for Sony. Many companies have already signed to advertise on Home inclusind Capcom, Ubisoft, Disney etc and I cant think of the prices to advertise in home being anything but cheap.

Home was expensive as it has taken well over a year but it finally releases and day 1 it will begin to pay for itself. Another thing about Home is that it will continue to evolve and chances are will go onto the next Playstation console so with that said, do you think Home will become the biggest Playstation cashcow for Sony? I think it will eclipse Gran Turismo which has made Sony a lot of money.

The success of Home will be nothing but good for gamers. That money will have to go somewhere and as a big company it is likely Sony will recycle any money made back into the Plsyatation brand ie more games, increase in firsty party studios etc. To everyone who said Home was useless................just lol.

Potentially. Yes.

Potential is the key work, however Sony have pumped so much into Home there is not an option for application to fail for them. I am giddidy about what Sony will do with the money though, hopefully more titles will be announced. Sony London Studios have spent ages making this game and now I hope they are in a position where they just leave a few people to keep making Home better and the rest get back to making games.

You can actually fly that red bull plane

The big question is will it be advertisment cash cow or maybe it'll be barely enough to cover maintenance and bandwidth consumed by it ?

Still as long as it helps to keep internet gaming free on ps3 i don't mind.

Well if you look at how many companies have already signed up things are looking up. This one is in it for the long run and that is what will help Home, it's going to be here for good so one time or another it will break even and the money will start flowing.

There's no reason why it should fail. It's free, there are 14 million PSN users, it's going to make them a LOT of money. Hopefully they put that into R&D for the PS3 and PS4, as well as exclusive games and a bigger first party (Level 5 anyone?)

Precisely Kantor, it has been made so that it can easily be migrated to the next Playstation console. Profit made from this one could de countless things such as increased budgets for devs, buying more studios etc.

All id good, the flying spaceship mini game also sounds good :P

Tons of companies have signed up to have Game Spaces or Content in Home.

Looks like all of the people who don't want it to do good are going to be very unhappy. Pubs/Devs seem to be on board with Home. I think it'll be a huge cash cow.

I'm kind of interested how this goes. I have already heard stories of some companies pulling ads out of Second Life, and that place is pretty big.
